Does anyone else's dog do that? We never got them removed (our vet isn't keen on it unless there is a necessity), and Ghost has been chewing on hers for a couple weeks now. Doesn't look like they're really irritated or anything, but you can tell the nail is being chewed. I guess she's my little nail biter...

Do you clip them occasionally? Some dogs, when they get long, will try to chew them down. Kale still has his too. I was going to have them removed when he was out for his neuter but they wanted $500 bucks!! PFT! I'd rather clip them once a month! lol

Our vet didn't want us to remove Aevyns, said for huskies he felt it was safer to keep them. [shrug]

So Aevyn still has his, and he's never chewed them or needed them clipped. Maybe he chews them when I'm not looking. lol

Either way, if they dont look irritated I wouldn't think you'd have to worry, would you?

That's a good point. I haven't really been up to something like that for a while, and I'm pretty sure Aaron hasn't clipped them. They have been getting kind of long, and the one she's been chewing most has definitely been chewed down some. Now that I'm more mobile, I'll see what I can do with them. Thanks!

No prob! I use the "manly" (gigantic!) human toenail clippers and nip the tips off

Aaron actually has a set of doggy clippers (even though Lulu almost never lets him clip her nails), and we got a little grinder tool.

On a side note but still regarding nails, her back nails are always uber short. We haven't had any problems with them bleeding since that one time over the summer, but they pretty much stay ground to just about down to the quick. Front ones are fine, back ones not sure about. Is it normal to show that much wear? Aaron has been REALLY bad about walking her too, and I won't be capable of doing so for a few weeks yet, so she's not getting loads of exercise (starting to show, too...)

Kale's are ridiculously short to. Seems like it would be painful but he doesn't seem like he's in pain! haha One of his bled once after running around on some cement, but I put some Neomycin on it and it heal up rather quick. I see a lot of active dogs at work with really short nails as well.

Ok, thanks. I'll continue to keep an eye on them. Now that Ghost is getting closer to a year, we're thinking about starting to run with her in another couple months, and I don't want the nails to become an issue. We do have some RuffWear boots that I got as a gift a couple weeks ago. I need to try them on her and make sure they fit, otherwise I need to find out about shipping back to REI (there are none anywhere remotely close to here) for an exchange.
