Hi all, first time i have experienced this with Kira. Last Saturday I noticed a small red raised lump on Kira. It is located on her right front foot first toe pad or actually next to it. She hadnt been limping or anything just noticed when I was checking her feet after a walk for grass seeds.

She was licking to so i had a closer look and its seemed red and roundish. I thought initially it was an irriation from a scratch or she got something stuck in her pad that had caused an inflamation. Took her to the vet last Wednesday and the vet said she could have scratched herself on something sharp caused infection. Nothing appeared to be imbedded in it. She also said it could be a small hystocytoma. The vet said prescribed a dose of antibiotics - Clavolux one and quarter tablets morning and night daily till finished ( I guess based on her weight 24 kg) and to bring her back this coming Wednesday to see if it has cleared up. If it hadnt then she would be taking an aspiration to set what it is. Now I am a little worried. Kira is only young 1 and 3 months. I do hope its nothing cancerous. This is the only place I have seen this thing. After what I went through with my poor baby laska and cancer I hope that this doesnt develop into something bad. I am crossing fingers it will heal up and go away.

I looked this thing up here to see what she was talking about but is seems these things can go either way.

Has anybody had these thing on their huskies, did they go away ?

Usually Histiocytomas are self-limiting and go away on there own. Very uncommon for dogs over a year of age. They usually show up at around 5-7 months and take about 3 months to shrink down and go away. If it is inhibiting walking or it lasts longer than 3-4 months, Drs usually recommend removing them. They are benign and are not serious at all to the overall health of a dog. Kale had one when he was 4 months old and it went away within 2 months. I'm actually quite surprised that the vet didn't aspirate it right then and there, he would have been able to tell you right then what it was... I guess I'm used to working for more diagnostic drs lol. Can you post a pic?

Thanks Brook, its not impeding her walking at all as far as I can see. Not sure why vet did aspirate straight away. Maybe Kira has had it there for awhile but I only noticed it last week when i was checking, maybe it was so small that it I didnt notice it previously. Well thanks for positive advice feeling a bit better now.. I will take a photo when Kira is the right position and post it.
