| Sorry guys I wasn't trying to just imply that they were good with cats, I just meant with training I feel that a lot of them could be.
So, is Michigan way too far?

This is not likely, unless like you said, someone knows a person at the rescue. We had a good home, with a happy teenage husky and wanted another and were turned down by rescue after rescue for being too far away. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I think I am just going to wait and until I get an answer on Lumen from Nothern Lights and if she is taken, then I'm sure they have other options. If not, I will then try out Free Spirit. At least I know these two rescues won't descriminate against my location. |

| Yout will find the right match, just don´t hesitate on it. Eben if a dog is good with cats, there is never a 100% guarantee, that he will not harm the cat one day. And if a Husky is described a snot cat friendly I personally would not try it out, because in the worst case the cat will be dead after that try and even if the dog does not get her, it is alot of stress for the cat if the dog constantly stalks her. |

| Thanks for the links Jennet! I kinda feel like my hands are tied at this moment. The adoption director told me she would let me know in a week....that was 6 days ago. I really want to know if Lumen is taken or not. I liked everything i read about her. She is not only good with cats, but crate trained and house trained. That's more than I could have asked for.
I could be reading more into this, but I wonder if Norhtern Lights is upset with me since I did try to rescue with them last year and then withdrew my application to get Willow. I hope they won't hold something like that against me but I would feel terrible if I withdrew my application again. I don't know, maybe they don't care about stuff like that... I will say, if the rescue that had the Malamute changed their mind about my distance, I WOULD withdraw my application. They described Slade as a gentle giant and that just reminds me so much of Dakota. I would love to have him. Plus he had such a hard life, I know I could provide him a safe happy home. I've been trying to think of a way to tip the scales so they won't care that I am 2 1/2 hours away. |

| Hang in there. I look at it as if your app checks out good with the references and vet, why should it matter the distance if your willing to do the driving. I understand the stress though. |

| The rescue was really cared that you were 2.5hrs away?! I swear, some rescues just don't want to adopt out their dogs. My mom has shipped dogs across the country for crying out loud! Only twice I think, but I thought most rescues would adopt out to pretty much anyone in their state. I know I do home checks for a sibe rescue that's about 3hrs away from me, so I know they will adopt out farther than 3hrs at least.
My mom adopted out a dog over the summer. She was in WY in their summer house and the lady drove from Idaho (I think) to get the dog. We've heard the dog is doing great in the new home. I think with reference checks and some common sense, you can pretty much figure out if a person is going to be a good home or not without a home check (if that's what they are concerned about).
Good luck! Hopefully someone will call you soon! _________________ -Sara |

| Sara, this rescue is on the outskirt of St. Louis and they said they want to stay in the St. Louis area for adoption. I think the reason would be so they can keep an eye on Slade. I'm thinking about mentioning to them, that I would be happy to keep them updated and really they could come to this forum for updates cause you all know I would be talking about him and Willow daily! They did say that if they didn't find anyone local, they would consider me, but I don't know if they were just being nice or meant it. Plus, I don't know how long they are willing to wait until they give me a chance. I hate to move on cause I am so drawn to him and I haven't even met the dog yet! Is that crazy? |

| Oh. Yeah, I know some rescues just don't want to adopt out of state. I would just keep sending them e-mails telling them how great of an owner you'd be! Convince them to adopt out to you. I bet you can convince them after a few e-mails. I think telling them you post on this forum a lot would help. _________________ -Sara |

| Use this site as a reference, tell them who you are here and have someone come online to read your posting. If they don't cut you a break soon look else where they're only playing head games with you. |

They aren't out of state....it's in Troy, Illinois, which is just before you get to St. Louis. I think I will tell them about being a member of this forum and that will give them a chance to keep updated on his progress. |

| We found Nanuk & Mika at the local Humane Society. Lots of Sibes end up there, as unexperienced owners either can't handle their energy and they give them up, or they get away from them. We were lucky to find Isis at a private rescue waaay up in MI. We took Nanuk with us to meet her. And they were able to play together so we'd see how it went. They ended up being the best buddies! Meeting & greeting is DEFINITELY a good idea! Hope Willow is beginning to cope better. Losing a friend is hard! If you notice it's quiet in the house, you can bet SHE notices it, too! |
