2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Husky Induced Heart Attack Empty
PostSubject: Husky Induced Heart Attack   Husky Induced Heart Attack EmptyMon Nov 14, 2011 2:26 am

As bad as Ghost's recall is in the back yard, she actually listened to me today. Twice. I also learned today that Lab owners apparently think ALL dogs are off leash dogs affraid

My buddy came to pick Ghost and I up today so we could brew beer and Ghost could play with his Lab Oakey. They're BFF's. Yesterday his wife picked me up and was very careful getting Ghost in and out of the car. So today, Chris rolls up, we load Ghost in the back, and head up to his place. When we get there, my crippled ass was getting out of the car to gimp in the garage, while he got Ghost. Next thing I know, Ghost trots by sans leash. Needless to say, I flipped, but thankfully Ghost just trotted up to the gate to their back yard, Chris opened the door and she went right in. We were there yesterday too, and she knew Oakey was back there. Crisis one averted.

Later, when we were getting ready to roll to our Homebrewer's Guild meeting and we let the dogs out back so they could do their business, and lo and behold their 7 year old daughter had left the gate open. That's how my mom's Poodle died when I was a baby. My brother left the gate open and the dog ran out into the road... Thankfully (I hope), Ghost got distracted by a sponge that was left in the yard. Didn't have any cleaner or anything on it, but she did manage to eat a few small pieces. Oakey slipped out while I was trying to get Ghost in, ran up to Ghost, and they both came running when I called Oakey. Thank God for Labs with wonderful recall. I guess they let Oakey off leash constantly with no trouble.

So, after 2 Husky induced heart attacks and some strong words about Huskies not being off leash dogs, EVER, I will definitely be MUCH more careful the next time we bring the dogs over. Hopefully next time I won't have my hands full of crutches and I can actually handle dogs.

At least Ghost is going to sleep for the next 2 days after playing hard all weekend Razz

I have that problem even with my own family. Especially my sister doesn´t get it that Huskies are a bit deifferent than other dogs when it comes to being off leash.

I can't tell you how many times we had to run after Shania because someone either didn't shut the door or just thought she could go out. MIL was the worst about it. Thankfully Shadow didn't realize she was a husky when it came to recall.

On a different type of heart attack, I went to brunch with Stormy yesterday to listen to a friend play. I had Stormy tied to the railing in the outdoor seating area and went in to say bye to my friend and leave a tip. I put Storm in a sit-n-stay. When I came back out he was still sitting!! I'm so proud.

Yay Stormy!!! I strive for Ghost to be able to do something like that...
