Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

"Just a Dog" Empty
PostSubject: "Just a Dog"   "Just a Dog" EmptyMon Sep 26, 2011 9:55 pm

I saw this on FB and had to share it with you guys...

“From time
to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog”, or, “that’s a lot of
money for just a dog”. They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time
spent, or the costs involved for “just a dog”. Some of my proudest moments have
come about with “just a dog”. Many hours have passed and my only company was
“just a dog”, but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have
been brought about by “just a dog” and in those days of darkness, the gentle
touch of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you,
too, think it’s “just a dog”, then you will probably understand phases like
“just a friend”, “just a sunrise”, or “just a promise”. “Just a dog” brings
into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
“Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better
person. Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look
longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but
an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of
the past, and the pure joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out what’s good
in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I
hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing
that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time
you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile, because they “just don’t
understand”.

Love it. On one of my military wife FB pages I frequent to get some entertainment, there was a post about how annoyed spouses with children are of those without children who act like their dogs are their kids when they're "just a dog" and hate how people try to say their dogs are their kids. Hence why I only use those places for reading material when bored, I'd throw a riot over that comment if I actually posted. Sorry I don't want any babies at 21 and can't have them anyway, snobs.

It's like my dad always says, "dogs will always be happy to see you. Who can say that about their children?"

It is great.

Yeah Heather I know what your talking about with the military wives. There were 3 of us wives that were good friends and didn't have children. We actually went to a FSG meeting just to see if there was anything important we needed to know when the boys got deployed. Well we had to fill out a form with info including children and their birthdays. Tow of us put our dogs' info down. Needless to say we weren't invited back LOL.
