| Just adopted Anushka (1 year old) and noticed some amusing quirks in her personality.
When I pet her and run my hand from her neck all the way to her hips she arcs her back up like a cat, never seen a dog do this before. Is this normal Husky behavior?
She follows me around constantly. She's only lived with us a couple of days, so it may be just her staying close to someone she knows best. Does your Husky (s) follow you from room to room?
Her coat is pretty long and shaggy on top with very little undercoat. It reminds me of Homer my old Border Collie's coat with the way it lies. She was malnurished when I found her and I'm hoping that the good food she's getting now will help this. My question is, is this type of coat normal for Huskies living in hot climates like Texas or is it her previous "diet"?
That's about all the questions I can think of for now. Thanks in advance for your answers. |

| As far as the following around the house...don't know if it's normal "husky" behavior, but Kody our 1 yr old male follows us everywhere! I can be doing dishes and he's laying at my feet. Our 5yr old female doesn't at all. She's very independent. You found Anushka as stray, right? I think I read that in your previous thread. I have no experience with adopting a stray, but she was probably on her own for so long that she needs the "pack" and therefore doesn't want to be left alone. Poor girl...
I'm in a very hot climate...MIAMI! My two aren't fluffy like all of the other huskies that I see on the forum. Mya's coat is more coarse and Kody's is thin and very soft, but not fluffy. They still shed like crazy though!!! |

| hm have you used any flea products? Kale and especially my cat Dusty do the same thing with their backs and generally don't like being petted if I miss the date to flea them. I you haven't and are interested in flea treatments there are TONS of options, but generally don't use the cheapy ones from grocery stores or pet stores; they tend to not work very well and irritate the skin. If she is flea free, I would get her checked out by a vet, It may be uncomfortable for her and a Dr may be able to help. As for the closeness, Kale does the same thing I find it flattering lol Don't know about her coat, I live in Cali and it gets in the 100s here and his coat is still pretty full. I guess my only suggestion would be to add some fish oil (salmon oil is best) when she is fully on her new diet and doing well on it. |

| Melissa, Yea she came to us as a stray. She likes to lay down on my feet, guess she thinks it'll keep me from gettin up. It's pretty nice really. Thanks for the reassurance on her coat. Brooke recommended trying some salmon oil so I'll give that a go.
Brooke, We took her to the vet and used a product called Certifect (made by Frontline). The ticks and fleas she had are gone. I'll get some salmon oil then and add it gradually in a month or so. Thankfully out here there are lots of feed stores and health food places. Thanks for the info. |
