No most dogs do it naturally when they have a BM; it's the ones that have an abnormally small duct or are prone to infection or blockage that tend to have a problem. Usually its seen in smaller breed dogs but larger dogs can have problems as well. Dogs that have anal gland issues tend to scoot on the ground, lick their bottoms incessantly, or seem to be in pain when having a BM. Clearing them out will do no harm but it's not needed if they are healthy Very Happy

Yeah, I've never had to do it on Siku. I think Elara's got blocked up cause she was on the tail end of her heat and was licking back there a lot. I think part of the problem was her licking.

This qustion I´m aksing myself alot with Anubis. There is always something with him, since 1,5 years there have been no time where was completely healthy. First there were skin problems, then problems with is paw. Now he seems to be healthy at first sight but I´m worried about him, because he is too quiet in my opiion, he even doesn´t want to run on walks, often he walks two metres behind me. Well of course guide dogs are a bit different in their behaviour but to me this isn´t normal for a three year old Husky. I will take him to the vet for an overall check up the next days. I don´t believe this is only a calming down thing.

I don't know if it is the same way over in Germany, but here most of the dog shows have eye clinics where you can see if your dog has problems. I think they tend to be cheaper getting them done at a show than at a vet. I got Elara's checked at a show this weekend for only $25. Thankfully she is normal. Smile

Do they also make blood testsß Yeah vets became very expensive and the increase of their prices doesn´t stop.

Well I don´t know if it is the same here I have never been to a show.

I don't think they'd gave blood tests at a show. But you could probably find a vet who could do it all.

I know some huskies (not sure their age) who are a lot calmer than normal huskies. What has been going wrong with his paw? Do you think the allergies are from food, fleas, or something in the environment?

I don´t know what it was or is, it started this January I noticed two lumps between his bale and his toes and it was weeping. It got better a few days later so I didn´t go to the vet. then a few months later it inflamed so bad that he couldn´t even stand on this paw because of the pain. He got antibiotics and several unguents and now it is gone but the lumps are still there,. The weird thing is, sometimes they are smaller other days they are bigger. I´ll let the vet check it when I´m going to check up for the blood test and if they still don´t now what it could be I want them to cut it off.

No I´m not sure what caused the skin problems but I´m guessing it was food, because I´m using another one now and since then it is ok mos tof the time.

Poor thing! I wish they could just talk to us and tell us what's wrong. Or better yet, just stay healthy! Knock on wood, Elara is doing better now and seems her old self.
