I did a little research because I had some time on my hands and I'm really into snakes, and apparently the Timber Rattlesnake can be almost solid black. If I had to hazard a guess, that's probably what you saw. Don't know if you saw the pic I posted, but I saw a baby Eastern Diamondback on the trail I sometimes walk Ghost on. I just about wrecked my bike trying to avoid it, but it was just chilling in the middle of the path sunning itself.

The only good thing is a LIVE snake. I have a copperhead as a pet. And that, my friend, is no copperhead. Its too thin, and the pattern is wrong. Its a non-venomous type, maybe an easten milksnake. This is a copperhead:

Because my fiance did research with copperheads for two years through college and when he finished with his research they told him he either had to find homes for them or put them to sleep. My fiance is absolutely nuts about reptiles, they're his favorite thing in the world. I really like them too. So, he picked his favorite one and kept him instead of putting him to sleep. We named him Godric. Razz We have a bunch of tools we use to house and handle him safely such as Kevlar gloves (bite proof, its been tested), snake hooks, locked tank, etc. We use the trash can to hold him while cleaning his tank and stuff.

That is actually a VERY COOL story!!! I'm glad I asked!

I still would put on the "Mom Hat" and freak when you were holding him with the hooks and Kevlar gloves.... Ewwww....

Copperheads are really the only snake I fear. That's why your having one brought chills. I live in Central VA and the copperhead is just so silent and unnoticable. We rarely see rattlesnakes (even though Bonfirehuskies did) and definitely no rattlers around houses. But those little, nasty copperheads are everywhere!

At least they most likely wont kill you if they bite! Only maim you Wink No really though, the only way you might die by copperhead bite is if you are allergic to the venom or have something else wrong with you that might compromise your body's strength...or if your a real young child. Even tiny dogs have survived copperhead bites though.
