| Hello! We are Chris, Teresa, Sagan, and Nola Rue Anderson. I have been perusing several Husky forums (as Spock would say, it seems logical to cultivate multiple options;-) but this seems like a fun place to be! We are going to adopting a 15+ month old female Husky from Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue in Indianapolis. We are driving up Sunday (600+ miles round trip!) to take her to her new home, and I'm sure losing sleep thinking about it. I think she has Gary Numan's eyes! "Violet" will be our first Husky. Currently we have a Beagle puppy, Nola Rue, and four stray cats. Nola gets along fine with other dogs, as does Violet, we are told. So we hope they learn to love each other. Not too sure about the cats... We have done a lot of reading up on Huskies, have a ton of supplies coming from Amazon, and have tried to Husky-proof the fenced yard as best we can. I am sure we will have many questions to post here in the coming days, weeks, and months! Thanks for such a great forum! CG |

| WOW what a gorgeous girl!!! thanks for driving all that way to get her and bring her home. there are many topics on here about cats and huskies. do you know if she is cat friendly? are the strays left outside? please keep a close eye on her with them.
also watch out with the puppy as she might want to play "husky like" with it. we adopted both ours and it took about a month for them to come out of their shell, we have loved every day with them! _________________ |

| Welcome to the forum and kudos to you for rescuing! Violet is one absolutely STUNNING girl...not that you need me to tell you that. Kudos to you also for learning up on the breed before you bring her home. I hope she transitions well with the cats but please do be cautious. Good luck on Sunday and we love pics so please feel free to inundate us with pics when you get her home! _________________ |

| Welcome! She is quite captivating! High five for rescuing a pup in need! And like what other have said before me, be extremely careful of the cats and her. My dog is great with my indoor outdoor cats because i got him at 5 weeks and I made such to teach them that they are apart of his "pack". but stray cat? HA he will chase and kill any stray cat that wanders onto our property. Just remember that I you set your mind to it all things are possible Kale and I say HELLOOO from Cali |

| She's adorable - those eyes are captivating! Congrats!
And something tells me that with a beagle and husky, your household decibel level will ratchet up a notch! hehe |

| Wow! What a family! Thanks for the warm welcome, ya'll.
We're coming out of a somewhat tumultuous time here. Four months ago, out precious seven month old Beagle puppy Kobayashi Maru was tragically run over and killed in front of my wife and child. She was as wild as wild could be--a harbinger I am afraid to the Husky breed we are going to dabble with next. She escaped out the front door and bolted. And some months before that we lost our 16 year old Belgian Sheepdog Bebe to a stroke. In 2009 our 11 year old Chocolate Lab died suddenly. After Kobay was killed, we adopted her sister, Nola, and now we will have Violet. And she is going to be strictly watched over and protected, much like Nola is now.
The cats are expendable. Kidding! We call them Feline Units 1,2,3, & 4. They were born in a barn behind our property, showed up one day. We fed them, and for some reason they won't leave now. Nola LOVES them, chews on them, carries them around, and they don't seem to mind. We will introduce Violet to them carefully. They like to come in the dog door and roam the house. They might get a surprise. Probably going to have to shutter the doggie door when Violet gets here anyway, as I don't want her out of my sight.
We will post up pics and vids as they become available.
Thanks!
CG
PS: We've been buying a lot of stuff for Violets arrival. And, although pretty much everything in our house--including the house--comes pre-chewed, I bought one of the Kong toys and tested it out on Nola. Haven't seen her since I gave it to her! She loves it... |

| Kudos to you for rescuing Violet. I did not get to meet Violet but I know her foster, Kris, through sending some area huskies and malamutes off to Northern Lights. I absolutely adore the folks at Northern Lights, they've been there for me every time I needed to pull a dog from my local shelter! |

| Well, we are back home after about 14 hours on the road. Wow. What a day! She has adjusted amazing well. It is as if she has been a part of the family since day one. Has played with our Beagle for a few hours, is afraid of the cats (!), and is very well behaved! She napped a majority of the way home (643 miles round trip for us), and didn't bat an eye when we ate McD's drive though! We love her! CG [img] [/img] |

| Congratulations and kudos to you for doing research and rescuing! Northern Lights is a phenomenal organization VERY happy to hear about her behavior with cats! Just be sure to always reinforce them as part of the pack and she should do just fine! I would shut the doggie door when you are not home though... I would STILL be wary of any unsupervised time with them! Congrats and welcome to the forum! Thank you for choosing us! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Congrats on adopting Violet! Good luck with the cats. We've done a LOT of hard work with Ghost and it's paying off with our cats. She still wants to play with them sometimes but usually now she just leaves them alone. I'd recommend teaching "Leave it" ASAP in case she does decide to start "playing" with them. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | What a beautiful dog. Thanks for rescuing. I must agree with the others though, that huskies must always be supervised around cats. Their prey drive is so strong that even a familiar cat, running will set them off. |
