| 'c'mon, mom!!! We just wanna go for a walk!'
Mya is over there every time she jumps going ' open the door!' 'open the door!'
I think what Jennifer said is good, sound advice! You can do it! I have faith! _________________ |

| Mya is crazy with the jumping! I haven't tried leaving the room though....I'll try that tomorrow morning for sure. I have tried just sitting down until she sits, but that only works when she's alone. When Kody's around it totally doesn't! When I walk Kody alone he doesn't go off like that or jump like that either. SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Oh my Melissa! I don't mean to laugh at your frustration, but that was crazy! You have more patience than I do. LOL. Ceylan was turning her head so far to the sides that I thought she was going to break her neck listening to your video.... lol Good luck girl |

| Oh Melissa, you poor thing. That was pretty crazy. I'm sorry but from this angle it was a little entertaining. I can't over Mya with the jumping.
I agree with the others. You have tremdous patience with them, you can do it. I would totally leave the room, just sit down, or stand there and stare at them like wtf, but for sure I wouldn't speak to them after telling them to sit a few times. Take a day where you have time. It may take 30 minutes to get out of the house initially, but it would pay off in the long run. Plus they may exert so much energy in that 30 minutes that they may be really good on their walk and actually be tired when you get home. One could hope, right? I feel for you girl. Good luck |

| I can't imagine that you could physically do this with all the crazy jumping, but you really should open a link on the prong collar to get it on them. It is a little dangerous to slip it over their heads. ...and once again I really think I have Kody's brother living with me! I get "talked to" about going on that walk and a couple of flops in the floor and then a good roll around... What a mess they are! We're gonna be tough, Melissa, and one day have the best behaved dogs on the forum! |

| Oh girls, you have no idea how much patience I have with them! It's incredible, but trust me sometimes I just blow up on the m and start screaming, but I know that screaming isn't going to get me anywhere with them so I try very hard not to! I laugh sometimes too because they actually do funny things..lol.
Dee, I think I'll do that this weekend. I should have some time because of the holiday on Monday and I also took off Tuesday. We're going to be SUV searching, but I should be able to do it.
Lisa, I know what you mean about it being dangerous to put the collar on, but trust me I'm a pro at slipping it on. Plus I always make sure that the prongs are facing their neck not their face. I take it off by opening it up though. I'm so happy that somebody else has a crazy dog like Kody..LOL! WE WILL HAVE THE MOST WELL BEHAVED HUSKIES...ONE DAY! |

| I'm sorry Melissa but your video made me laugh. It also made my two go bonkers thinking there's a dog outside! lol I feel your pain...the noises Kody was making reminds me of Demon when he thinks I'm leaving him behind but taking his sister. Good luck with those 2...they're a handful! |

I was going to mention the voice- your tone of voice and your body language in my opinion is full of uncertainty and frustration, and when you aren't confident in yourself and don't have a strong, assertive tone, they're not going to listen. Just like when they say dogs can smell fear in you. I feel like you maybe thing you'll hurt their feelings or something so you try to sound too nice or walk on eggshells.. If when Mya's jumping you step infront of her and go NO! and then tug her collar a bit, MAKE her sit, MAKE her stay, repeat, repeat til she gets tired of the process, she is not going to be sad or hold a grudge. And you shouldn't have to chase Kody or wait for him for the collar. Don't mention the walk, just have the prong collar around and when he's near grab 'em and put it on so then he isn't running around all excited because you said walk. (And I get that positive reinforcement is preferred, but when it's not working IMHO you need to try to be a little more hands on in the nicest way possible and then work on it to where you can correct it positively) Catering to and working around bad behavior isn't going to help. Hoping I didn't sound mean in this! I just could never live with my dogs doing this and it's painful to watch! I've had periods when Koda was a pup where he jumped around and went loco when it was walk time, but it was nipped in the butt fast and that was that. |

| Holy Crap Melissa! I don't know if this will help you but I would stand at the door and just stare down Willow until she eventually stopped and sat. When I would reach to hook the leash, she would act up again but then I would go back to standing there and staring at her until she calmed down again. It did take me about 20 minutes the first time, but the time shortened with each day I practiced it with her. She now will sit and let me put her easy walk harness on her with out any excitement. I don't have the actual walking part wrinkled out yet..but the start of the process is much calmer now. |

| Heather, nope you didn't sound mean. You're just giving your opinion which is why I posted this video...for feedback. I know I'm doing something wrong and me simply explaining it wasn't going to get the point across. You're right about me not wanting to hurt their feelings. I don't want them to hate me even though I know better than that! They won't hate me ever...they love me. After actually watching this video several times I see that I'm not being too strong with them and just repeating myself over and over. I'm going to try a combination of your advice, Dees, and Jenns. I'm going to try physically sitting Mya down and when that doesn't work I'll just leave them and go to another room. Come back and do it again, etc.
Mindy, holy crap is right..lol!!! I'll give the stare down a try as well. At this point I'm going to take every suggestion and try it out. Can't hurt! Plus eventually one method WILL and MUST work!
Patience, patience, patience!!!! |

| Trust me, these dogs do NOT hold grudges! I mean, think of how many animals who are actually cruelly treated still love and adore their owners (when they have every right to hate them!). Koda has been swatted on the snout in the past(LONG time ago- promise!!!) and he would look sad for a minute, go look pathetic somewhere for a minute, and then come hassle me for rubs and kisses. You don't have to feel mean for being assertive. You are doing this for THEM so they learn appropriate behavior and you all can enjoy walks, not to be mean! |

| I agree with heather, I would get a bit more physical. And personally I would never let my dog mouth me like Kody was mouthing you, he wasn't being very gentle and you deserve more respect. When Kale mouths me to hard i immediately say OUCH really loud,( that makes him let go) then i grasp his muzzle gentle, stare him down (mom glare) and tell him no bite, then let go and walk away. Sometimes he talks back after I let go but i ignore him and that usually works. Also I wouldnt get them excited by asking to go for a walk, silence is key. |

| Brooke, yeah, Kody mouths big time!!! I shut his snout and tell him NO and stare him down with the mom glare as well and it always works EXCEPT for when there's a walk involved. Even if I don't say "you wanna go for a walk?" Mya knows the motions that lead to the walk. Me changing when I get home, grabbing doggie poop bags, etc. Oh, and geez when I start putting on my sneakers she goes nuts!!! |

| This is what I would try: Don't announce the walk. The movement of the leashes and collars will stir them enough. Perhaps try to collar them in another room. Collars + door = Walk. They're not dumb so you'll need to break that and collar them someplace else so they'll be thrown off. That way when you're getting ready to get the leashes/pinches on you have something to grab to force them to comply when you tell them to sit. When you repeat yourself so often your words become background noise and has no effect- obviously! LOL When you ask Mya to sit if she doesn't respond within a few seconds, force her into a sit using her collar for leverage but don't repeat the command. Only tell them to do something if you are able to make them comply. Kody is 100% playing games with the collar thing. Don't give in to that crap. We have dogs at work do that and I won't put up with it and they realize quickly i'm not gonna play, get bored, and just walk to me to get their collars put on. Mickey does that bite the collar thing sometimes too. And I tell him to leave it once. As soon as he goes for it or opens his mouth to bite it I pull away and wait a few seconds or until he stops acting like an idiot. I'll do it for as long as it takes. It will only take a few times for them to get it that you're not playing games and it'll begin to take shorter and shorter time to get ready if you remain a consistent vigilant bigger pain in the ass than them _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | hmmm maybe switch up your routine. Or maybe you can put on your sneakers with no intention of walking and do that several times a day to desensitize her. idk if that will work or not lol worth a try maybe.

It will only take a few times for them to get it that you're not playing games and it'll begin to take shorter and shorter time to get ready if you remain a consistent vigilant bigger pain in the ass than them Normally, you would think that they had their collars on already, but I have to take them off while they're in the house after the incident of them getting stuck while playing. I've tried leaving them on, but Kody goes straight for Mya's collar. I can collar them in the room...great idea! Kody is for sure playing games and it gets so annoying because I just want to take him for his damn walk so he can burn off his damn energy (lol) Sometimes he'll even go run to the bedroom and hide behind Ivan and bark at me, but when I walk away he comes running tot he living room again! "consistent vigilant bigger pain in the ass" now that was funny! LOL!!! It takes me about 3min to let them out into the yard b/c I have them sit before going out and then when they see that i'm starting to open the sliding door they get up...then the process repeats again. I think I annoy the crap outta them! I have to try that when it comes to the walks!!! Yours just wait patiently by the door???? |
