One of hubby's friends is having a BBQ on Sunday and told us to bring Mya and Kody so that they could play with Shadow, he's 6 month old rotty. I really do want to take them, but I don't know about Mya. As Kristina and Dee know...she's not too friendly with other dogs. She does fine as long as they don't mess with her. Shadow is very sweet and doubt he won't respect her if she growls at him for sniffing her or whatever the case might be.

Hubby thinks it will be good for her to interact with another dog (other than Kody) and not at the dog park where she's totally on edge. What do you guys think?

You could look at it as spending some alone time with Kody if you are that concerned about Mya. I take my girls out seperately as often as I can. I sometimes feel like Elara becomes too dependent on Siku and try to make sure she learns that it's okay to go someplace new without Siku.

Can you take a crate and crate her if she gets out of hand? I totally understand not wanting to leave a family member behind Doggie daycare?

Sara, as long as I give Mya a good walk before I take Kody anywhere she stays just fine. I agree that having alone time is good, but Kody isn't that attached to Mya as far as going out places. If he's the one being left home then he does cry until we get in the car and leave. We've only done this to take her to the vet. I've left Mya home a few times to take Kody to the doggie park.

Hollywood, I hate calling you that..lol. What's your name btw? I think I might have asked you that in previous thread...my bad if I did I really wish I could take Mya to doggie daycare, but NO WAY! If she can't behave at the dog park or with just one unfamiliar dog around who knows how she'll act there I feel so bad leaving a family member behind Maybe I'll take her and if she acts up go into one of his spare empty rooms with her. Maybe give her a bone and let her hang out in there for a while. There are going to be a few people there (she LOVESSSSSS people and kids) so maybe she'll concentrate on them instead of Shadow.

Put her on a leash and introduce them that way. If she seems on edge take her away and try later, once she sees Koda having fun there is a good change she'll want to join. If not just keep her leashed the whole time.

im with Len, bring her so you dont worry about her at home with out you all. keep her on a leash if she cant behave, or stick her in a spear room, at least she is there and you can check on her. maybe she wont even care about the dog with everyone else around to give her love. you wont know if you don't try, and hey you get to put them in the new doggie car

As most of you probably know from Eddy's posts our female Malamute is a "bitch" in every sense of the word. It has been a couple years since we took her to the dog park because she couldn't behave the last time she went. We often go to friends houses who have dogs and we never take her. We do take the boys because they can play and not get aggressive. My advice would be that if she doesn't mind staying home alone, leave her. I know I wouldn't have any fun at a BBQ if we took Coco because I would constantly worry about what she's doing and that apprehension would probably just cause her to act up anyway. Just take her for a nice long walk by herself first and she will be cool !

I think I'm going to attempt to bring her. If she seems on edge I'll leash her up or put her in the spare room. If she's to outta control then I'll just leave Kody there with hubby and drive her home. It's about 20-30min away from my house so not too bad.

She also gets very possessive over people when they're eating So might have to leash her up while everybody's eating

We have the SFL Snowdogs meet up tomorrow, but she's definitely staying home for that. I'll take the ride with Kody!

Bitchy is bitchy....if there is a possibility of blood being drawn what's the difference. I know I wouldn't have any fun holding my dog on a leash at a bbq and don't even get me started on that issue (ie. introducing dog's while on leash). If she doesn't mind being home alone I am just saying I would leave mine home. All of us bitches need some alone time once in a while anyway .
