| Just found this site, looks great so I decided to jump aboard! So, I call my husky Jack. He's been with me for almost 6 months now. I was given him by a coworker...long story goes like this - Jack was wandering around a nearby town for several months, no collar, nothing to indicate he was anything but a stray. Nice old lady sees him, puts up a post on craigslist. No replies. Jack really is wandering around town; sometimes she saw him in the neighborhood everyday, sometimes he'd be gone for a week or two. Well, finally a neighbor down the street snatches him up. This neighbor is known for being harsh on their animals, including a couple horses. (You know the type - we all consider them abusive, but legally they find a way to fall just short. The law always says there's nothing they can do...) Well, they've got Jack tied to the fence on about 4 feet of leash. They fed him scraps when they fed him at all... He was in this situation for about 2 months before chewing himself out...literally. Nice Old Lady sees him wandering again, now dragging his 3 feet of leash. She picks him up, knows she needs to get him out of town so his most recent owners don't take him back. She gives him to a young woman she knows that owns a husky already. Young woman asks her husband to find an owner. Husband works with me, knew I was planning on getting a dog soon (wasn't ready just yet). He asked, I jumped at it, and here we are. Veterinarean estimates his age between 2 and 3 years. He says it's hard to tell because we don't know anything about his past. It appears to the Doc that Jack has been a stray for at least the majority of his life, if not all. Physically he's 3, mentally he's about 2. Anyway, here's some pics. |

| Welcome to the forum, and thank you for rescuing him. He's a very handsome boy! _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Welcome! ahhh man i don't have the only Jack on here now.... what a story to go with a happy ending e is a hansom boy! i hope you have gotten his shots done and chipped him since it sounds like he likes to be out and about. was he fixed? if he was then someone must have had him at the start. good thing is you can "teach" a husky at any age to you can work on his manners. _________________ |

No, he's not fixed. Haven't yet decided if I will or not. I don't want to "improve" his temperament, I like his attitude. He's got spunk! And he's getting chipped next paycheck. |

| I live in Turlock, just south of Modesto, and I hate it lol tooooo HOT! And I would really consider getting him fixed. It doesn't change their personality at all (thats a myth), and if you don't you run the risk of him getting testicular cancer and prostate problems; and it will also aid in him not wanting to roam and find a mate as much. |

I do husky rescue and have seen too many unwanted puppies needing rescue. Accidental breeding is a high risk with husky's tendacy to escape and roam. Health reasons alone are enough to convince me having had a rescue die from prostate cancer, it wasn't pretty. |

You will soon learn, there's little to no chance of taking the "spunk" out of a husky!! It's only been 2-3 months since Sabaka's neuter and if anything HE'S SPUNKIER!! (Teenagers...SMH!) | Ah, beautiful boy and story! I am by no means an expert, but from what I've read, two things come to mind: FURminator and fixin'! |

| Get him fixed but not because, Bob "the twit" Barker said so. You'll have a healthier dog for it. |

| Welcome and thanks for giving him a home. And getting him fixed will not get rid of his 'spunk'. Take it from all of us, he'll have more than enough of that for years to come! Won't change his personality one bit. _________________ |

| Welcome! I'll 32nd the "get him fixed" attitude. Appa hasn't changed a bit since his neutering. Also! I lived in Valdosta for awhile! I can't remember where exactly, but I think it was College Street and N Lee Steet.. I think, either way, welcome. |
