Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

I've been reading up on raw and I think it would be something cool to try eventually. Right now I live with my fiance's family (sister, brother, mom, dad, and grandmother + me and him under the same roof) and I have no income (since I'm in school) and he's just working part time at walmart to just try to bring in some money here and there, so I don't have a way to freeze any large amount of meat to keep up with the costs of feeding raw. I was wondering if maybe supplementing every once in a while with some fish would be good for the dogs? Diesel always lingers on the edge of being too thin but he loves bones and rawhides or things of that sort. I've always thought fish would be best for my huskies since I feel like that was probably more of their natural diet than beef or chicken (even though Diesel loves chicken, so I feed him that flavor of kibble). I guess my actual question is if you guys think it might help him keep a more balanced weight to supplement with some fish (or really even any frozen meat that we have lying around) once in a while?

Sorry for the late response, I must have missed this thread. Supplementing raw meat is definitely beneficial whether done on a regular basis or infrequently. I think offering a variety of different meats over time is more beneficial than just sticking to any one, but fish is fine as is chicken, turkey, beef, pork, lamb, duck, quail, venison, rabbit, and so on. Smile
