| Frankie is a little social butterfly. He wants to meet and greet every dog he is around. He is very good about "keep walking" on our walks and it's never an issue then, but we go to many pet events where there are a ton of dogs and he wants to know who everyone is. It's easy when he's off leash at the dog park and it's expected then. My question is when all the dogs are leashed.
When he meets a new dog he usually goes to their snout first to smell, maybe try to lick and if the other dog allows he moves to back for the official sniff and they get their sniffs on. However if the other dog shows teeth, snarls, or growls then frankie backs up and leaves them alone. If at first sniff they both sense that they both are playful.....game on (which I don't allow when on leash at these events). I never saw a problem with this as Frankie takes cues from other other dogs pretty well. He LOVES to lick other dogs teeth.....What's up with that....is that a submissive thing?
I only ask because I have seen some people get a little uneasy about Frankie's approach. Awhile back someone said to me "don't ever let your dog meet face to face first". I never really had a problem with it. If the other person tells me their dog doesn't like when dogs come that way, I move Frankie and thats that. If he gets snapped at, then he won't do it again to that dog. I thought I read somewhere that this is normal. So just curious, How do your huskies meet/greet other doggies? |

| Pretty much the same way. Sometimes I think he can sense that a greeting isn't welcome and he won't even pay them any attention. Same with people. He has gotten really good at not jumping except when he can tell they are dog people. I always correct him in that situation and the person is like, oh that's ok. Very good judge of character. |

| Frankie is so sweet. You have to love him!! Well, as you know, Mya is NOT too much of a doggie lover She might try to smell the dog, but if the dog makes one wrong move she's all growls and snaps! Pretty much as long as they don't mess with her. She's cool. If they invade her space too much she's not a happy camper! Kody, oh geez, Kody! He loves EVERY SINGLE DOG EVER!!! Whether they like him or not..lol. He hasn't learned his manners when it comes to approaching other dogs yet so he'll go in paws up and prepared to play! LOL! |

| Koda always likes to say hi too! He will go up to them, exchange sniffs(either sniff their face, lower neck, or bum) and brush against them, and usually be pretty calm. If the other dog initiates play though it's game on, though he is never the one to start it. If a dog barks harshly at him or snaps then he stays clear and moves on.
Rogue is pretty good with most dogs, she is still shy around some. If a dog tries to play with her though she is all for it. If the dog isn't outgoing or she is uncertain, she just sits there til it comes up to her and then she will let it sniff her. She doesn't really sniff yet. |

| Luka is pretty good when it comes to meeting other dogs. The only thing I don't like is that she always has her hackles up, and I think that intimidated some dogs, and owners for that matter. Kitty is awful at on leash greetings! She jumps at the other dog like a psycho dog! She play snaps in the other dogs face if you let her get close enough. 95% of dogs we meet on leash get freaked out, and try to get away or act defensive and try to attack. Off leash she is better, but still not great. She runs up to other dogs fast, which still freaks some dogs out. She does the whole sniff thing, but moves on to full on tackle play 15 seconds after sniffing. This still catches some dogs off guard, especially the ones that like to thoroughly sniff before playing. Lastly, I think Kitty was a little dog in a past life because she loves to play with little dogs. She will ignore a big group of big dogs and go right up to the smallest one and start to play rough with it. Little dogs hate her and I don't blame them! Most of your dogs sound like they have good greeting skills. Well, except naughty Mya Mya would definitely kick Kittys butt, and kitty would think she was trying to play! |
