Willow's new snack... Empty
PostSubject: Willow's new snack...   Willow's new snack... EmptyFri Aug 12, 2011 9:16 pm

My house is getting plagued with crickets and Willow has become the Cricket Huntress! I am constantly finding her chewing on them. It's so gross! I looked online to see if this is harmful to her and I did find that it can cause a type of worm (ugg) and they suggested this stuff for prevention

Has anyone heard of this stuff and is it really as safe as they say? I'm not good at researching...

No clue about the stuff, but I know what you're going through. When we were in WY the back porch would be covered with moths trying to get in and my girls thought it was so much fun catching them midair and eating them. Very gross sounding!

Yes it is! I wish these were just on my porch. I think they are getting in my basement and making their way up. Willow is enjoying their invasion, but I am not! I gotta figure out how to get rid of them without poison.

Food grade diatomaceous earth like the stuff you linked to is good for taking care of parasites both internally and externally. Just be more cautious about internal use, read the directions and don't give too much. And always make sure you use the food grade stuff. Smile

My sibe has become quite the hunter of cicadas over the past few weeks. Totally disgusting and he's become quite skilled at catching them in mid-air. Rolling Eyes

Thaks Valerie! I don't know how you decipher ingredients so well. It just makes my head spin. Cicadas are gross, I'm glad it's just crickets I have to worry about. Willow did try to get some hornets a couple of weeks ago. I found three laying on their backs at my back step. They were still alive, but barely. I got rid of them in case they had been poisoned. That's the last thing I needed for Willow. She thought they were tasty treats.

Kody brought in a dead frog that was missing a leg last night. I'm assuming he ate the leg (EWWWWWWWWWW!). He has diarrhea now so I'm guessing that's the reason behind it Sad

Cicadas are Kittys new favorite snack ever since we moved. I've never seen so many cicadas at one time. She likes to jump up and snatch them when they sit on tree trunks. She also likes to eat the left over exoskeleton they leave behind after they molt. Eeew!

Nasty dogs, aren't they?! No

The most horrible part of the cicada eating is when they start making noise while they're in his mouth and he's chewing. He did that in front of my neighbor friends while we were out walking...all of us were mortified! affraid

Humans eat Cicadas that have been skewered and deep fried in many foreign countries!

I also have heard that the cicada population is greater every 7 years (?) because the cicada larvae lives underground for 7 years only to emerge and reproduce. I don't understand why there wouldn't be cicadas developing and emerging every year?? This 7 year "cicada boom" may just be an only wives tale... BUT we do have many more cicadas this year!

I read in our local paper here in Charleston that this year was going to be particularly bad with cicadas as they were going to be coming out for their rare 13 yr cycle. According to the article they come out more frequently on a 7 yr cycle I think but there is also a rarer 13 yr cycle that they were going to come out which just so happened to fall on this summer. Lucky us!
