| Hi everyone,
Earlier this year we adopted Ghost. We think he is a husky/malamute cross, although I haven't seen many malamutes in real life so opinions are welcome. He's a rescue dog and we don't know much about his past. He's about two years old.
Since we went looking for a dog, rather than specifically a husky, we thought quite hard about adopting him, since everyone says they are not for first time dog owners. I found reading these forums really helpful in making the decision. It's worked out beautifully - he's a wonderful dog. So thanks to all on the forum because the advice on the threads is invaluable. I figured it's about time I stopped lurking and joined up!

| I honestly don't see any malamute in him. I think he's just a husky bred outside of standard size. Unfortunately, not every breeder breeds within the standards, but that's why we rescue (both mine are rescues ). Welcome to the forum! He does indeed look like Len's late Mylo! Can't wait to see more of Ghost. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Fellow Northwesterner! Beautiful dog. I agree he looks like a big husky not a malamute.
My last husky before Bodhi was a 67 lb. female who was not overweight. |

| Well he does look a lot like Len's dog. And good to know there is another Ghost too Thanks for the opinions about husky vs a husky/mal cross. He has blue eyes and I know that is a recessive gene so that does suggest husky. I didn't know they could get so big though! We really don't know much about his past except that the vet confirmed he has been mistreated. He is a lovely dog though. I mean, he is always trying to pull me in the ditch when he decides to go hunting, and he takes ten minutes to decide whether or not to sit when we ask him, but he is a wonderful creature. He turns a lot of heads when we take him for a walk. |

| Welcome! He's gorgeous! He definitely looks husky to me.
Signed, Owner of a huge husky (our boy is about your size and weight too! Ours is a rescue too, so probably just bred grossly out of standard.) |

They aren't supposed to, but that doesn't mean that irresponsible breeders don't breed them to be that big. Most people are actually surprised to learn that huskies are only supposed to max out around 60lbs for a male and no taller than 23.5". Again, that doesn't mean they don't exist, just that they aren't supposed to be that big. Many of us have rescues who don't conform to standards, but they are still full husky... just not properly bred huskies Mal's just have a distinct carriage, body type, and facial structure. I don't see any of that in your Ghost He's a handsome boy, and I would definitely say full husky! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |
