| Subject: Is my puppy a Husky mix? Mon Jul 25, 2011 7:35 pm | |
| Hi :]. I adopted a puppy a month ago, she is correctly 3 and a half month old (confirmed by a vet) and she is a husky mix. She is active, VERY smart (she learns commands very fast!), and very friendly! Though a bit mouthy at times (sometimes chews on my hand) but we are working on that xP. I have been told she is a purebred husky from her last owner, but I don't buy that, he didn't have any papers to confirm that , nor I saw her parents. They gave her up because they didn't have time to take care of her. I can see there is a husky in her, but there is something else. Of course, I could not care less if she is "pure" or not, I love her anyway! But of of curiosity: My question is : Can you tell with what (If) she is mixed? I have to mention, she is a bit big for a husky! She is three month old and weights 9-10 kg. And both of her eyes are dark brown. (Her ears are not usually floppy, she feeling a bit sick after her first visit to the vet) Well, I'd love to hear opinions! Thanks in advance~! |

| If she can control the erect-ness of her ears, I wouldn't say she's full Sibe. My Border Collie can do that, i'm not sure of other breeds that can. The first 2 pictures really don't look anything like the 3rd and 4th. I'm not really sure what she could be. Perhaps get some better body shots of her? _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | Well, I wouldn't say she can really control the erectness of her ears, after her first visit to the vet, she got her first shot, so she was feeling a bit down, and her ears stayed that way for 1-2 weeks. And I will try to get better pics, as soon as she wakes up :]
I thought about Husky/ Border collie. I heard border collie are very intelligent dogs, and my Pup learned to sit/lay down/ give a hand / high five / stay and few other simpler tricks in just one month. I think this is pretty good for a puppy D: .. But I also noticed that border collies are smaller than huskies? She is pretty huge.. and I am confused xD |

| Hmmm...could be a pure bred piebald Husky. The shot of the back of her head looks super husky but the last shot of her snout has something non-husky about the snout... |

| I was thinking the same aswell.. Not to mention, her eyes are very odd for a purebred husky. It is not that uncommon for a husky to have brown eyes, but not dark brown. I think that my curiosity will finally get me and I'll take her for a DNA test. Anyhow, thanks guys ^.^ |

| I agree with Chili and Frosti's mom ... back of head -- all husky. The face totally adorable but a conundrum lol. With the eyes, it's not so much the color that throws me off so much as the shape. They seem pretty round, whereas huskies have almond-shaped eyes. I say who cares, though Her's cute I'm glad you are doing the DNA test. One unsolved mystery averted! haha |

| Haha , I agree, I love her very much, sometimes she looks at me with her conundrum eyes when I say something random that she doesn't understand, doing a "0.0 say what" experession, which is hilarious xP Tomorrow will be her second visit to the vet along with her second shot, I will also ask her about DNA test and it's price, If its cost is reasonable, I will gladly share the results lol |

| Ha! I just joined last Thursday and have spent a lot of time here. I work from home and adore huskies as well Good luck with the Army! I spent 9 years in the Air Force from '97-'06. It's was a wonderful, invaluable experience; I hope you'll find the same with the Army (and that your pup will get to move with you when you get out of training!) |

| I would venture to say that she definitely has some husky in her and piebald markings to boot. Like many have said, because of her snout and her ability to manipulate her ears, I am not inclined to think she is a full husky. However, also as mentioned, she is adorable and I'm just glad you took her in Welcome to the forum! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

Yup, one of my huskies has a brown eye too! Frosti has one dark brown eye. Huskies with black points (snout, etc) have brown versus amber eyes. Chili has liver points and therefore has an amber eye. Regarding shape, Frosti has almond shaped eyes (as per the husky standard), but Chili's are more round. I do see some potential border collie in there with the snout, though. Type in "piebald husky" into google and you'll be some pictures with your pup's coloring. And yes, she's adorable no matter what! |

| Thank you everyone ~ You are really helpful Hillary Cole, I am looking forward to serve the army as well. :] As for Lucky (my pup), I will post results as soon as I can! Now I am really interested if she is a collie mix, Lol. And of course, as I said, I love her no matter what, and I did not pick her by the breed, I picked her because she looked so miserable in her old home and once she saw me she ran towards me and licked my face XD |
