| Is anyone familiar with this? Looks like an all organic, grain-free food. I'm no expert so I thought I'd come ask all of you knowledgable folks. I couldn't find it on petfoodanalysis.com, but I can't seem to navigate that site properly anyway...

| Ok, the ingredients: Organic Chicken, Poultry Meal, Organic Tapioca, Organic Peas, Organic Soybean Meal, Organic Potato, Dried Egg Product, Salmon Meal, Poultry Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Organic Chicken Liver, Natural Chicken Flavor, Organic Flaxseed, Salt, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2 Polyphosphate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), Yeast Culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), Dried Enterococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Niger Fermentation Extract, Dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus subtilis Fermentation Solubles, Rosemary Extract. I would say the ingredients in RED are OK, then you got some vitamin supplements. 'Poultry Meal' and 'soybean meal' could be anything - so it could be the 'scraps' that's ground up which doesn't excite me much. And then you got poultry fat which also isn't all that great IMO. Analysis: Crude Protein (min.) 30.00% Crude Fat (min.) 12.00% Crude Fiber (max.) 3.50% Moisture (max.) 10.00% Calcium (min.) 1.00% Phosphorus (min.) 0.80% Vitamin E (min.) 75 IU/kg Omega 6 Fatty Acids (min.)* 1.75% Omega 3 Fatty Acids (min.)* 0.65% 5.25 lb - $20.99 14.5 lb - $52.99 You may as well go get a bag of Orijen, which is a 6 star dog food with high quality ingredients, which cost $36.49 for a 15 lb bag. Ok, so it's online, but even with shipping, it would be less than $52. So my opinion...not worth the money at all. Hopefully Val will chime in if I'm incorrect about the ingredient list in the kibble in question, but even if it was high quality (which I doubt), you'd still be better off getting Orijen, or something else that costs even less than Orijen but just as good. _________________ |

| I'm with Claudia that is poultry meal and fat would steer me clear. I like everything to be clearly identified. The price is OUTRAGEOUS. Like Claudia said, Orijen is pretty much the top kibble here and you can buy their biggest bag for 75-80 bucks... and 30lb of that food is $105 and I would never chose it over Orijen. Shoot, for that price, just switch all the way to The Honest Kitchen. 15lb bag is not even a month's worth. |

| That's crazy. I was mostly interested because my buddy works at the ad agency that does all of Castor & Pollux. He tipped me off to them, thought I'd look in to it. |

| Castor & Pollux is not bad at all. Now all their formulas are not created equal and I actually prefer C&P's grain inclusive formulas over their grain free formula.
I personally would not recommend the Organix Grain Free Adult formula that you linked to, Riley. There are plenty of better grain free options in that price range.
And while I'm not a grain-inclusive fan, personally, C&P's grain inclusive adult formula is actually pretty good and something I wouldn't have any qualms recommending to someone who doesn't mind grain in their dogs food. My mom feeds C&P's grain inclusive adult formula and she most certainly wouldn't feed it if it didn't get my approval. lol This is the formula that my mom feeds and is pretty darn decent: Organix Adult Dog Food _________________ |

| You can find Castor & Pollux at PetSmart for WAY cheaper. They also allow you to return an open bag if you decide it's not the right food for your dog. |

| It seems that salt is a little high on the list, and that's a LOT of ingredients that can't even be pronounced, so while they may use organic products, they don't appear to be an holistic product. I tend not to eat processed foods myself because of the stress it causes to kidneys, so I do the same with the dogs as best I can without going to a raw diet (I'm afraid I'll miss some vital nutrient and do them a disservice if I go raw).
I have had WONDERFUL results with Blue Wilderness (Not, blue buffalo, blue wilderness -- it's their premium mix). I alternate between salmon and duck. It's super high protein and high fat which our sibes need, especially if you're really active with them. Also, this food is AMAZING for their coats, teeth, and breath. When I got Boris, he had no fur on his rump near his tail and he was scruuuuuffffy. 3 weeks after putting him on Blue Wilderness (which I started him on the day after I brought him home), his coat was glossy, grown in, and gorgeous. With this food, your dog will have NO scent to his breath. It's amazing. I still brush both my dogs' teeth once a week, but just for cleaning, not for breath issues.
ALSO, both of my dogs only poop once a day with this food because it's jam-packed with nutrients that their body actually uses, thus there's less waste. And since it IS so high in nutrients, you can feed them fewer cups/day. You should be able to get away with 2 and a half - 3 cups/day depending on your dog's weight. Here's the ingredients and analysis:
Deboned Duck, Chicken Meal, Potato Starch, Turkey Meal, Peas, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Potatoes, Tomato Pomace (source of Lycopene), Natural Chicken Flavor, Flaxseed (source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids), Alfalfa Meal, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Blueberries, Cranberries, Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Yucca Shidigera Extract, L-Carnitine, L-Lysine, Turmeric, Oil of Rosemary, Beta Carotene, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Niacin (Vitamin B3), d-Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Biotin (Vitamin B7), Folic Acid (Vitamin B9), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Choline Chloride, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Salt, Caramel, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Dried Yeast (source of Saccharomyces cerevisiae), Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, Dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation product, Dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product.

| I found this site to be really helpful when choosing my dogs' food. I was scared off by how many foods have "meal" behind the meat, but came to learn that it isn't what we think it is ... lots of good info on this page
