We're in the process of changing Appa from Purina to TOTW with Salmon, and I was just wondering how quickly should we expect to see a change in his stool. We started out with just a little and his stools looked great for 3-4 days, then added a little more and kaboom! Runny day 1 with the increase in TOTW, is that the effect of adding MORE TOTW or are we just not experiencing the original TOTW switch?

Full digestive results can't be seen for about 2-3 weeks. However, what you're experiencing is absolutely a result of the switch. I would back down to the last proportions that he was doing well on for a couple of days, and then increase again more slowly. Sometimes even a few kibbles too fast can cause such results.

i wish i could help you but im not one for switching foods and when i do i only do it in a few day, i just figure if they are gonna go runny lets get to that point and then test it 100% on the new food for a week and then see if they are still runny. i switch TOTW flavors cold turkey all the time with Jack, and he is fine.

now you are going from from Purina to TOTW with Salmon, and right there you are introducing a much better food into his system and i think you were smart going with salmon first as the protein is not as heavy as the others, i think he is still adjusting and you should keep adding in till he is 100% TOTW and then keep him on that at least a week or more even if he is runny it will take time to work it out. if after a month of off and on runny poo then maybe its time to switch the food

My female's tummy is sensitive, so for her, I take about 3 to 4 weeks in order to switch to something new for her. But once I know she does well with that food, I can switch back and forth without issue. Same goes for new treats...I'll give a small piece on the first day and if she's still OK 24 hours later, I'll increase it the second day, and so forth.

One thing I was told is if you switch to foods WITHOUT "by products" you can switch to 100% new food with minimal negative results.
I don't do it that way but I've come close to that with great results.

I think that really depends on the individual and how sensitive (or not) their stomach is. I've heard similar things said before also but if you have a sensitive dog it really won't matter how good the food is that you switch to. Just my two cents anyway.
