Hello everyone, I'm new around so I decided to start my rein of terror here! Very Happy My names Karen, I'm a 21 year old college student in London, Ontario. My boyfriend and I recently added a husky to our family of fur. By recently I mean months ago, but it took me that long to find a place I could brag! Wink Stumbled across you guys when google-ing why my boy was changing colors.

Aevyn's our pup, he was born Dec 13/10. Picked him up at 10 weeks (had to do the puppy thing, we have two cats (one rescued!) and couldn't risk their safety.) He gets along with his feline sisters very well, and on a general scale of things I'd say he's pretty well behaved. (Although, I will admit, his manners need some work when there are other huskies afoot.) He is the first dog that my boyfriend and I have owned as adults, this excluding the long list of large-breed babies we had growing up. I was a bit nervous picking up Aevyn, but he's been a sweetheart. All the horror stories people have told me about huskies certainly hasn't come true (yet, at least!)

Looking forward to hanging around the forum and enjoying everyone's babies with them. I hope you enjoy Aevyn, too!

This was Aevyn the day we brought him home:

And this is him yesterday, after hijacking my shower:

He's 6months now, still no sign of horror. He does like to dig a little bit at the dog park - but aside from that he's only howled once or twice without our persuasion, he doesn't pull on his walks (although I instantly put him in a harness that would help control that. Maybe it's to blame), and he hasn't even tried to steal our food, yet!

The colour changing question did get answered! :3 I'm both excited and a little anxious to see what he's going to look like over the years. Severely hoping he doesn't lose his mask, I love it far too much. Already though he's gone from completely black and white to a rusty colour on his back legs, and tan on his ears, chest, and tail. Behind his ears appear to be going either white or tan, as well.

Welcome, you have an adorable pup. Sounds like you've been lucky with such a well behaved pup. Does sound like you've got a bit of color changing going on. Over time I would expect the mask to fade especially as you reach the senior years, but it'll be a long time before that happens.

Welcome! Aevyn is very handsome! You're at the cusp of the teenage years, but it sounds like you're not counting your chickens yet... which is good Smile

Let us know if you have any questions and welcome to the group!

It'll be sad to see his mask go, but certainly if I at least can have it for a few years I'll be happy. Is it normal for huskies that start off black to typically not end off that way? Should we be expecting more gray or tan when he gets a bit older? I've met up with what we can only call Aevyn's twin at the dog park - and aside from Aevyn being a bit smaller they're identical so far with their colour changing. Maybe a trip to the breeder to meet his Dad this time is in order.

Yep, certainly not counting on anything just yet, I'm sure he has some tricks behind those eyes of his. Maybe right now he's just trying to get us comfortable so he can discover his voice and wake us up nice and early on a weekend when we want nothing more then to sleep in. Hm.

Thank you so much for the welcomes, anyway! Definitely looking forward to hanging around here.

It is very normal for sibes to change color to both darker and lighter. My boy was a dark black when we adopted him and today he looks like a completely different dog with how light grey he ended up. Yet on the other hand some sibes born grey end up having the grey eventually turn dark black. And then some don't change much at all. It's hard to guess how they'll end up.

Guess I'll have to make sure not to lose his photos. It'll be interesting in a few years to look back and watch his colours go. :3

Thanks for answering! ^_^ I'm so impatient. I want to know -now-.
