| It seems as if it was just a few weeks ago that we were wishing a Happy New Year for 2023 and here we are almost on the eve of New Years Day 2024.
It's been a hectic Old Year and I surely hope that the coming year has better plans than the last. The old saw about not saying it could never get worse because it seems like it will sure held sway in 2023. War and rumor of war, famine and flood ... oh it wasn't nice, let's hope that this coming year is better!! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| We started the new year thinking there would be a big snow/ice storm and looks like this one is going to fizzle for us. Weather channel has us knocked down to just rain. Local news station has us knocked down to 2-4" of snow. Husband works for electric company and all the models had them up in tizzy leading up, but that's usually how it goes. They say we got something big coming it doesn't happen. Meanwhile this time last year we weren't even told it could rain and ended up getting nearly 6" of wet slushy snow that no one was prepared for. Think the cold will get us though even if the snow doesn't. _________________ |

| The storm did get us but all snow. Not a huge dump, hard to asses the actual accumulation. The little side tables outdoors and the diving board appear to have about 8-10" but cut left by the snowblower in the driveway suggests only 4-5". As does Ami's walk through the back yard. I'm thinking that the ground really hasn't frozen yet and still holds s lot of heat so the snow melted and compacted as it fell but the little tables and the diving board are above the ground with air circulation underneath and the temperature stayed on the mid to high twenties so didn't melt on those surfaces. Probably all a moot point - lots of rain and wind coming in tomorrow. Ami and i will both be happy to see the snow go - he's coming in the house plum sized snowballs hanging from his legs and belly.
Son 1 in eastern Massachusetts, however got a significant 14" dump. I don't think his little dog even stands 14". |

| So the southern san juans are screwed. We are at less then 10% snowpack. For those of you in places that aren't deserty, basically all our water is snow melt outside of the few weeks of monsoon season. And its -1 right now according to the temp sensor hanging from a pole.
Its a terrible time to try and find a new job but the cheap explorer just aint cutting it. Owner hired a relative and i lost half my hours to him. Ive spoken with her twice about needing the normal hours back that she gave to her relative. She made it seem like it would happen to the extent that the schedule initially showed me on 4 days a week again. So i turned down 2 days a week at the gas station, only to have the schedule redone the first week of jan and back to being only 2 days a week and that job has been filled now.
Im not even sure i get the logic considering her relative is 28 and moving back to kc at the end of summer and it took 4 months to hire someone before him, its not like we have a huge work force. My other coworker left in nov because of this, and he told me he felt pushed out, when they cut him from full time to 15 hrs periodically but then wouldnt work with him on having a second job so he could pay rent and whatnot with 4 kids. 3rd month that she has known im trying to get the truck fixed but gave 2 of my days to her relative. He is a really nice young man with no bills so its breeding resentment considering ive been there for over a year |

| I would look for something else. I get wanting to take care of family but you can't screw over your employees that have taken care of you and your business long before that family member showed and up that you will need after he leaves. Just not right. Job market starting to slow here. _________________ |
