Hi All - I’m hoping someone might have had a similar experience. My boy is a 5 year old Siberian that I adopted in August. He loves his walks and has never cared about passing vehicles, but that’s changed recently. He was neutered in late September and diagnosed with yeast based ear infection in both ears today. I took him to get his ears checked because about two weeks ago he started barking and lunging at passing vehicles and has even lunged at a couple folks running by. What I don’t know is if he’s reacting from fear because of his ears or if it’s a change because he was neutered. Any one have experience with a similar behavior during an ear infection?

Probably  jumpy because he cant hear as well. Similar to how touching when he isnt expecting it can make him jumpy.  Like for me his ears are on overdrive to compensate for blindness.

Also he was neutered at 7 and he went from my personal protection dog to overall nice but would attack on command. He still bites men but we have done 2 whole vet visits with the new vet without a muzzle or sedation except the dental. Je is still mean at home and the reason we cant pass the home inspection to take in foster kids.

So shadow is a gsd. Both my husky mix girls have different reactions in public. Spider is a reactive nightmare and howls and goes every direction. She will react to anything moving within 2 miles but at home is very chill and laid back. Squirt is perfect in public but slightly barky at home. Squirt had a very bad spay or something. Total attitude change to all the non dogs and dogs that wernt ours. Her and rambo slept together for 3 years when she killed her and patches (cats) and ripped the neighbors pitbull apart. Kills calves. Then went after existing dogs in the house and now we keep her separate. Spider had no change with being spayed.

You really haven't had this dog for very long. It can often take a few months before they become comfortable enough with their new people and their routine to start showing what their personalities and tendencies are really like. While the ear infection could cause it due to the things previously mentioned there is the possibility that he has finally settled into his new home and you are seeing his natural tendencies either because he's looking to protect you or possible overexcitement because your routine may not fully satisfy his energy now. I would start working on training it out now just in case the ears are not the cause.
