Squirt has a new home at the end of the month Empty
PostSubject: Squirt has a new home at the end of the month   Squirt has a new home at the end of the month EmptySun May 08, 2022 1:28 pm

With great sadness i am rehoming squirt. Ive had feelers out for a few years now and ive always said if i found the right home i would let her go and i think i did. I just am not sure if im missing/forgetting something. My friend that watches her when i need her gone is fixing her barn into an apartment for her handicapped dad. He has no pets except fish and she will be there every day to help him. Because he is elderly/handicapped i offered to take squirt to the vet and pay the vet bills the remainder of her life. He is in a moterized wheelchair and squirt has been trained to them when she was much much younger, and thats alot of why he wants her. He doesnt want a small dog or a puppy and has been to the shelter several times and cant find a dog that isnt terrified of the moterized wheelchair. Seems like its the right fit for her. She turns 11 in September. The yard is not fenced but she is ok on a cable and they do have a dog run on the property and squirt is only a runner if there is something tasty to chase like an elk or rabbit.

Sounds like it could be a good fit. Especially if the girl is used to watching her previously then she has learned a lot of her quarks and has been successful at keeping her out of trouble. If it's been a while since Squirt has been around the chair it may take her a bit to get back in the groove of it but I'm sure she will come around. It's hard to have an animal for so long and then let them go. Not sure I could do it, even if it was in their, or my other pets, best interest. I'm up to 3 cats because I'm not good at it. lol.

She had her for a week while i had surgery last month and squirt and steven were introduced by chance because R took squirt to go visit him. She didnt seem to notice the chair but did remember staying next to it to not get run over.

I dont want to rehome her but the fighting through the door is getting worse and its not safe with her being here. She is used to the situation with when she goes out and keeping her apart but someone wanting a senior dog with behavior issues and slight incontinence is like her winning the lottery.  Its the best thing to do and it will make both her and an old man very happy but im sad about it.

And i have visitation whenever i go over to Rs house, and it was made very clear that i made a lifetime commitment to squirt and if it doesnt work out i want her back and i will cover emergency vet bills for her.

If shadow liked puppies or other dogs besides spider and splinter, i would have a new dog every time i drove through ute country or the small towns where dogs get dumped.
