Hi, I know that, for the most part, huskies don't need a lot of grooming, except for coat blowing season. And usually I just give her baths at the pet food store but her pad fur has gotten pretty long. I'm thinking of giving us both a break and have her groomed once but, will the pad fur just grow long again in another month? TIA!

Mayans
Maybe not in a month, but yes it will grow out. Again. And again. Sort of like a beard. Needs periodic attention. Why not pick up a pair of grooming shears with blunted this and just do a quick trim yourself? The trick is to keep the shears horizontal to the skin, not perpendicular.

I use jerrys clippers with a very short guard. Spider gets knots behind her ears. With my girls, particularly squirt, she gets really long hair between her toes and on the pad side. I was advised to leave it by my vet because it protects her feet from frostbite and burns from hot surfaces.

Im waiting for the really cold part of winter to be ever before i do squirts trouser area. Her dreadlocks are turning into matts.

Recommendations for grooming shears? Also, trousers? You mean butt area? Kjaere is getting long back there.

Thinking of getting Kjaere groomed because of pad fur. 20200414

This area known as trousers also called feathers on the back legs. And she is not very good about it so it ends up looking botched. This year i am thinking of waiting until her yearly appointment since i spend a whole lot to have her sedated and i could do a nice looking trim instead of the ordeal that it is.

@glorth2 mine are Oster. I think I got them from Amazon but maybe Walmart. They didn't cost a lot.

@lostmaniac hah. Another pup with a Picasso haircut. Sno has been coming in with 3" pieces of spruce wrapped in his hair. Only way to get it out of the cut it out. Chopped. That's what he is🙄

It regrows fast. Depends on how much of a kicker they are. I just use kitchen scissors.

OK. I don't have "shears" so to speak but I do have a manscaper I can try. She just doesn't like her feet messed with. Sad

Spend some time petting her with the clippers, including rubbing it on her feet. Give treats while introducing it. Proceed to doing the exact same thing with them on, also giving treats while doing this. When shes mostly non reactive then you actually clip her feet. Just find a really high value treat to associate with the clippers, and put the time into desensitization training.

I bit the bullet. It was about $50 and totally worth it. She looks like a showdog right now. Just her butt was worth it. I'll try and get a good shot.

I wish i could do that. Squirt would probably bite the groomer. Haircut time may be coming soon. I think squirt needs a dental and ill shave her before she wakes all the way up.
