| I’m wondering if anyone else has gone through the exhausting trial and error process of diagnosing their husky with IBD? I’d love to hear what symptoms your dog showed and how you ended up treating it? When my poor guy gets flare-ups, it all starts with me waking up to him pacing and whimpering with a loud gurgling belly, and then when I let him outside he desperately starts eating grass like crazy. Then, when he tries to pass it, he howls and screams in such disturbing pain, and he’s often straining but nothing comes out. When he does pass the grass, sometimes there’s blood. But I can’t get him to stop eating grass when these flare-ups happen. I wish there was something I could give him to settle his stomach instead of eating grass. The only thing that seems to help is a drive to the vet for a b-12 shot. I want to prevent this all-together, it’s so awful seeing him in pain. I’d love to know diet recommendations, any home tummy ache remedies, how to avoid the grass eating, etc. I welcome any ideas! |

| I haven't and our search seems to intimidate folks so take a look at small intestine disease alternatively you might want to look at rock hard stoolI'd be willing to bet that the primary suggestion you're gonna get is take him to your vet and see what they have to say ... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| All your vet does is give him a B-12 shot? Have they actually run any parasite tests, or looked to make sure there isn't some sort of blockage or kink in his intestines? If they haven't done some basic testing to make sure it's just inflammation then I would change vets. Did they do bloodwork that shows your dog has a B-12 deficiency? You can supplement B-12 at home by boosting animal protein content in food and there are also pill supplements. You would want some starting bloodwork to see what the deficiency level is and then a rerun of it later to see if he is absorbing it at all through dietary means. If he can't absorb it through food then the shot method might be your only real option to keep him healthy.
My dog doesn't have IBD but she is diabetic and sometimes the stomach issues can cause her to go off food, which can't happen when on insulin. Dogs can have pepcid to help with stomach acid build up and gas. Google can tell you dosage for your size dog. Just plain pepcid, none of the special kinds.
Hydration is super important if he's having very solid poops that are hard to pass. Adding water to his food to get a boost could help if he's not great about drinking lots of water. If you are thinking about approaching a food change you may do some research into Chinese medicine approach to "cooling foods" which has been known to help with inflammation throughout the body. _________________ |

| A bad vet diagnosed spider with ibd. She has an issue with the orfice between the small and large intestines but symptoms are very similar. We have had decent luck with raw and proviable forte |

| The reason for B12 shot over diet is that the inflammation in the gut precludes absorption of dietary B12. See the protocol for dx and tx as listed in the Cornell article posted above. |
