PostSubject: Winter the Alusky, passing water bowels, not eating, and vomiting bile   Winter the Alusky, passing water bowels, not eating, and vomiting bile EmptyFri Aug 06, 2021 11:23 pm

Hello everyone, I really hope someone can help me. Yesterday Morning, Winter, my 10 week old alusky puppy did not have his morning food. When taken to the bathroom he passed water and one little lump of stool. After a conversation with my vet, I decided not to feed him for the evening. This morning, he did not want to eat again, and also passed water when taken to the bathroom, like, literally milky yellow/green water. This evening he decided to have a little food, very little and minutes later he vomited it, undigested and with bile. So I have made my appointment with the vet for tomorrow morning, but I really want to know if anyone else has gone through this same thing.

At 10 weeks old you don't have a problem, you have an emergency. I wouldn't wait for an appointment, I'd take the pup in now!

You don't mention whether he's drinking or not but making sure he's drinking is going to be much more important than eating.

I'm not going to make any other suggestions ....

Until you can get to the vet, as this is an emergency on a pup so young, NO food. You can try licking ice cube every 20 minutes or a few drops of water in his mouth but not a lot at once. You want him to absorb the liquid not barf/squirt it out.

Sounds like parvo. Let us know what the result is.

Thank you all who responded, the vet said it’s a parasite. Gave me metronidazole and trimethoprin for the mornings, and a probiotic for later on in the day. Thankfully, today my puppy has been drinking his water and has not yet thrown up. Yesterday, after the visit to the vet, he did throw up twice. Vet examined the puppy and was suspecting parvo, but then discarded after checking the stool.  Winter is still refusing to eat, I am planning on giving him chicken broth with bland rice, hoping that he might start getting something in his stomach.

Thanks much for letting us know the results ... yeh, parasites aren't that uncommon but can be a major problem with a puppy that young.

As long as he's drinking don't push too much to get him eating. Offer the chicken and rice but if he's had an upset tummy, it may take a couple of days before he feels like eating anything and even then it might not be much.

Also, to add to what Al said. First several days, only a tablespoon of food at a time, wait an hour or two, than another tablespoon. After he's eating this regularly with no vomiting/diarrhea, try 2 tablespoons at a time. Once he's avidly hungry, eating with gust, increase the amounts and decease the frequency.
