| Here its open season all year on coyotes. And yes they do have hunts like that in montana and Idaho and alaska for wolves anyway. In Colorado snares are legal. the vast majority of these hunted canines end up as coats for rich pretentious women. Fur farms are really bad also. Not so much different from paying a texan $40000 to shoot a lion in a fenced in area. Alot of regulations particularly involving protecting wolves and bears were rolled back during the trump administration. Colorado is in the process of reintroducing wolves to fight wasting disease. Ranchers are upset hunters are upset everyone else is happy.
I guess its picking what you want to be upset about. If you hear what people do to regular dogs and cats it wouldnt surprise you. Colorado uses cyanide bombs to kill coyotes and you can not imagine how many peoples pets and children have been hurt and killed by them and yet its legal.
I think its sadistic and alot of the people involved in things like this use the bible to justify beating thier wives and kids and will quote scripture about dominion over animals when you ask them why they killed it. I think some of them have really small dicks and killing something is the only way they can feel manly.
Historically, trophy hunters and rapists have similar personality traits. Its about control and what more control do you have when you kill something. There are huge connections between killing animals for the hell of it and domestic violence. |

| Okay, warning to start: I've some really mixed emotions on that type of killing.
A few years back we were, literally, overrun with coyotes - you couldn't let any type of dog our without being out with a gun with it. They were so intrusive that they'd literally come into a yard and grab whatever they could. The state called in a trapper and he trapped and killed hundreds through out two counties down here. (( Presidio and Brewster counties are about the size of 1/2 of Ireland ))
Nature has gotten even with us and we're now overrun with jack and cotton tail rabbits - you get what you pay for, I guess. The coyote population is gradually reviving and I think it's the states / counties desire that we let them alone and let nature control them ... regrettably, fat chance.
With the National and State Parks on this side of the border and the three preserves on the Mexican side we're gradually seeing the cougar and bobcats come back - hunted only when they become a nuisance to campers / cattlemen. Ditto the wolf population - it was decimated prior to the 50's and wolves of any kind weren't seen in either the parks or the preserves until about 10 years ago. I've had one Mexican wolf wander through my yard one time and it was beautiful to see.
As cattle ranches form conglomerates and the cattle are moved from range to range there's less competition between the local native(?) wildlife and the cattle, so ranchers are less likely to kill for the sake of killing. We do have an invasive aoudad population that were brought in from Africa years ago for sport hunting - they got loose and are now in competition for the native deer / elk so there are hunts for them and upon occasion the state has air hunts to limit them in certain areas.
By no stretch of my imagination is it ethical to kill for the sake of killing! There are times when a population of <something> needs to be culled for the greater protection of the native wildlife - I don't have a problem with this but it needs to be (and generally is here in Texas) licensed and controlled. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| one genocide we have going on is prairie dogs and its all for the sake of house foundations and roads. They have prairie dog killing contests.
We really dont have a coyote issue, we have alot of them but between rabbits and road kill they dont bother people or pets. They are beautiful. We have the same male hanging around that came last year when spider went into heat. I can tell its the same one because his tail is mostly missing and so is one of his ears. He will leave after she goes out of heat. I have to be extremely careful because coyotes are monogamous and i dont need him claiming spider. |

| You have to be careful with the extremism people against something can swing into their narrative. Showing images of someone running over a fox or coyote with a snowmobile is a simple animal abuse act by a jackass being capitalized on for the message of the video. But the managed killing with guns and traps is a humane way of keeping balance in a system where humans have thrown the balance far off. There are limits, there are specified areas, and the management of wild canids is really no different in some areas than the management of deer that we venture out and kill in huge masses multiple times a year.
Someone on social media was freaking out the other day because the conservation department was doing push kills on deer down at the lake. They basically go into subdivisions where general hunting isn't allowed and they push and eradicate the deer that take sanctuary in the subdivisions. It horrified all the old retired city people but it's a necessary thing since those subdivisions are housing huge deer populations that will begin to pass disease around. When watching anything that is pro something you have to watch it with a grain of salt. The goal of the video is to get you on their side and villainize the other. And usually the truth is somewhere in between.
There are bad people in this world who don't do things the right way, but there are far more people who do things properly and humanely and for a very valid reason. _________________ |

| I understand Culling as we have very over populated deer herd here. And we don’t have any natural predators here so each year the get culled. And @TwisterII that’s what I was wondering how true this was, if it was a British lady over exaggerating and making something out of nothing or was it just a culling, And there are always people out there that do thing just for kicks, a village in aldershot a hour from me a man is be heading cats, and in my local village people are putting rat poison in sausages and leaving it on dog trails. That’s why I thought instead of listening to a British lady who might not Of done research who better to ask then my friends over in the USA, |

| From the cbs link a quote from texas parks and wildlife According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which has oversight over hunts in the state, an exotic animal is defined as any animal that is not indigenous to Texas. Texas is the epicenter of the exotic animal industry in the U.S.

| The closest the first link comes to "$40000 to shoot a lion" is - Quote :
- A price list offers a huge choice of rare species charging up to $8,500 a kill.
and the second with - Quote :
- Wildebeest hunts, like the one the Talleys purchased, average $4,000.
both a long way from the $40000 you mention. And the reference to OX ranch - Quote :
- “We don’t hunt giraffes,” Mr. Watson said. “Buttercup will live out her days here, letting people take pictures of her. She can walk around and graze off the trees as if she was in Africa.”

| We do have a coyote liking contest, not exactly sure when. I have little problem other than vague discomfort/distaste at hunting as in taking a deer for the freezer. But this contest thing is not too my taste. Particularly after 2 years ago done failed to get a kill shot in the field across the way and I had to listen to the heartbreaking sounds of av wounded coyote. I'm sorry I reread this thread because it brings that all back .. |

| We have a rule in our family and it’s if your not going to eat it don’t kill it. Killing for the sake of killing I do not agree with, if you killing for meat I don’t have a problem as we have deer and pheasant in our freezer now. And culling although I don’t like it I understand it. But to kill for “sport” is horrible even lions, wolves and predators don’t kill for sport, there has to be something physiologically not right with you. To kill wolves Lions giraffes rhinos just for a Instagram pic is wrong! And there’s no way of say “yes but I made a 10% donation to the charity” makes it right. |

| We had the same rule about only shooting what we were going to eat. Bbq squirrel is not very good.
I dont know what you call it but its illegal to see and not kill or report feral pigs here. We have a list of things to kill on site or only throw back dead and feral pigs are the only land animal on the list. Everything else is a fish or a beetle or crawfish. Feral pigs are scary destructive.
