| Hey everyone!
I have been frustrated with my husky lately and I would appreciate some help. For some time now my 2 year old husky is misbehaving/bothering my little sister who is 9 years old. He would CONSTANTLY jump on her, nip her, sniff her rear and mount her all the time. I would tell him "no", but he doesn't listen as am not close and would keep doing it until I have to physically move him myself, which then he would just run away when I get close, then get back to bothering her when I'm not near.
He does not do anything like this to me AT ALL and only does it to my little sister and lesser of this to my other family members.....It's very frustrating because he doesn't listen to any of them, and since my little sister cant or doesn't know how to correct him(no way she can either), he will misbehave the worst towards her.
And yes, he does get enough exercise and mental stimulation. He is also not the type of dog you ignore, because he would just keep doing what he wants and wont ever stop. Also, I have tried putting him in time outs, but he would just go back to whatever misbehavior he was doing to my sister or other members of my family.
Any help is appreciated, I'm so frustrated at this point.
-P.S.- I know for a fact that if I was living alone with just my husky, he would be the best behaved dog ever at home. |

| (( I'm not going to comment on a 21 year age difference in siblings, just WOW!! ))
Now for a more serious side. An indelicate question is in order - while it might be early, is your sister beginning that time of her life where she's having a period? *That* would definitely provoke an interest from any male dog around and your description of his actions would make me lean in that direction.
Since most of us are home now, for various reasons, I'd think an in-house leash is in order. Keep one end on him and the other end tied to your belt (or chair or anything that he isn't going to move easily) so you can be there to correct his actions. More importantly is to reward him for times when she, for example, walks past him and he "looks but doesn't touch" - which is easiest to do when he's on lead.
Lots of luck!! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I would agree with alijones on this. It may not fix the issue comepletely but is he neutered? Sometimes this helps with hormones. Some dogs though once they learn a behavior its harder to break. I wish you the best of luck. |

| Also could be a dominance thing, if your sister isn’t strong enough to be the boss of him he will try and be the boss of her, huskies are a very dominant breed and they need to know who is boss. Is he doing it to every one or just your sister? If it’s just your sister I would agree with @aljones but if it’s to a few different people that aren’t strong willed I would think it’s more like a dominance thing |

Lots of luck!! Hahaha I'm 23!....Probably could change that Hmm that's a good point, I hadn't thought of that, this is probably why. Good idea, thanks, i'll buy a really long line and have him leashed when he starts acting up! |

Your right, he probably knows my little sister can't control him like I can so he takes advantage of this. Though he isn't I would say dominant, he most definitely is bossy, stubborn and strong willed...if you give him an inch he will take 20 miles haha. |

| To all you men, sorry, because i know you dont like thinking about it, or talking about it. I would lean to the hormonal issues juat starting with the 9 yr old. I have the same issue with spider when female friends come over during their time of the month. Could be your male husky is a little confused about thinking your sister is a female getting ready to go into heat.
When i was 8 i had similar issues involving one of our mastiffs. I grabbed the dogs legs, knocking it to thr ground, got on top of him and grabbed his throat. We never had an issue again. This idea that a 9 yr old can not control a dog because of size is ridiculous. I would find a dog trainer or class specifically that your sister can take the dog too. Not only will it help your dog, it will teach your sister some confidence, and help with self esteem/self worth which is extremely important for preteen and teenage girls. I get as her brother you want to protect her, but in a few years it will be boys. Think of the dog as a practice run. Instead of running in as the hero, teach her to handle the situation.
Have you tried to have her redirect the dog. Ie, carry treats when dog does unwanted behavior, ask for a sit or something and when he does the something, reward it immediately. Work on rebuilding the relationship between your sister and the dog. And thats for her to try not you. For you it would be rewarding her if your sister walks by and doesnt go for it. Your training program must include everyone in the house, or there is no point. And the biggest thing with training people forget.. always end on a positive note. If training ends badly the next session wont be as effective. |
