I throw it in uncooked, but I honestly don't think it would matter too much. I wish the high on Saturday would be 58 here... _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I just use whatever kind of apples I have on hand at the time. Don't think I've done granny smith yet, but it sounds good.
Well done on getting Ken to eat the squash! _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | so with a high of i think 38 on sat i got up early and made Meredith's chili, it was tasty!! ken even enjoyed it, paired well with our corn bread. up next is a chicken chili, so i hope to now have 3 in our winter rotation the only bitch was cutting up the 2 cups of squash, that shits hard on a uncooked squash, trying to cut it from the skin. then i go to costco that afternoon and there is a container of cut raw squash!!! sure it was more but the time it would have saved..... _________________ |

God, that is such a pain in the ass! I've seen the precut stuff at Wal Mart, but I seriously try not to buy produce and meat from them. Publix is so much better, but I haven't seen pre cut squash there. Glad you guys liked it! It's still kind of warm here, but I'm seriously thinking about making a batch... _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | you might be able to find some at the Commissary. When I was flying in and out of Travis AFB so much, we could always find it in their Commissary and we'd have bison burgers and steaks all the time. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. Are they at least going to knock him out? When the Navy did mine 10 years ago I was wide awake, and it was one of the worst experiences ever. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | http://tastykitchen.com/recipes/special-dietary-needs/spaghetti-squash-with-grilled-chicken-and-sun-dried-tomatoes/ this is super tasty!
i also made up my own meal! yes i did!!!! i used a package of this, go to site get a coupon. http://www.johnsonville.com/products/chicken-sausage-3-cheese.html i used half of a baked spaghetti squash and a few spoonfuls of sun-dried tomatoes couple shakes of dried minced garlic, was to lazy to use fresh and about 3/4's of a can of chicken broth cause its what i had left from another recipe.
baked the squash cooked up the sausage added the tomatoes and garlic with the broth then cooked and added the squash for the last 10 min or so. did it all on med heat. i enjoyed it and feel free to add what ever you want to it. _________________ |

| Ok, so after my debacle with spaghetti squash a few weeks ago, I decided to give it another go after chatting with a couple of you about proper cooking techniques. Would have thought my mom, the middle school foods teacher wouldn't screw something like that up, but I really should have known better after eating her cooking for the last 30 years...
Anyway, ran a search on the website where Jenn's pumpkin cornbread came from, and found this:
http://tastykitchen.com/recipes/special-dietary-needs/vegetarian/southwestern-stuffed-spaghetti-squash/
It was excellent, but probably more work than I was capable of at this point (long story for another post). I ran it through weight watchers and it said 17 points per serving, which I have to call bullsh*t on because it's mostly 0 point veggies.
Spaghetti squash = win for the night _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | ok Meredith, here is the break down of that Recipe and why its 17 points. the squash is acting as a Carb,/starch even though its a veggie the olive oil, can you use less? the salt, can you use the light salt? black beans, either a starch or a protein (a protein if paired with a grain (fresh whole corn)) and the cup of cheese, can you use less or the reduced fat cheese.
this sounds super tasty and im gonna have to try it. maybe instead of it making 2 servings you break it into 3-4 servings and pair it with a salad thanks for sharing _________________ |

| I was just about to search for this thread! How funny. Meredith, I want to make your chili tonight, but I don't have a crock pot. Do you think making it in a regular pot will work? The only reason it needs to cook that long is because of the butternut squash, right? How about if I boil it before? I've never cooked anything with squash |
