So i got my truck stuck in the driveway again, which had me thinking... how many huskies would it take to pull a ram 1500 off the ice? Followed by could i afford or handle THAT many huskies. A friend of mine tried to pull me out with his f150 and for an hour there were 2 trucks stuck in the driveway.

So now im parked on the road, and im debating on a cheap sled and a harness for spider to haul the groceries the 200 feet.

We've had a snow here, once upon a time, that bested two plows. Our neighbor, the farmer a mile down the road came by with his small dozer. He cleared it. Slowly. Very slowly. Dosers don't move very fast. But the word inexorable comes to mind.

Part of my driveway is really icy and it cant be plowed down to the dirt. Handled the 5 feet of snow with no issue but when i hit the ice it was over. Spider wont mind the 300 foot walk to the road. Im gonna buy a cheap sled and put spider to work with the groceries tomorrow.

About an hour ago i let spider out and in 2 minutes she was on 2 paws. Its really funny to watch. -9 is too cold for my girls and splinter. The German shepherd is ok until it drops below-15

None of mine would hold up to pulling that kind of weight. It's hard to say how many it would realistically take to pull a truck off the ice since it's hard to find several dogs of proper quality for such a task.

My husband tried to dead pull his black GMC out with my Explorer once and she wouldn't budge. He ended up snapping a rope and nearly busting out my back glass (I was not home). When I got home and drove my truck and he got in his and gave it a miniscule amount of throttle my truck could move it just fine. Why he thought my truck could dead pull his, I will never know.

I let the pups out on lead this morning and Avalanche sticks his head into the water bowl - and looks up me with a "What the hell, dad??" Seems as if it wasn't water but a bowl of ice. Actually just a 1/4 inch or so but still ... it's not supposed to get this cold in the desert, is it?? We must have been below freezing for several hours for it to freeze as much as it did. Gonna do it again tonight to ... I'm getting tired of this winter already!!!

On the topic of dogs pulling, I've often wondered what I'd get if I put all three of mine in front of my Jeep. Seriously, I wouldn't expect them to be able to pull it ... but the thought has crossed my mind a time or two. ( and also seriously, I wouldn't do it because I'd think they might hurt themselves trying to go in 11 different directions! )

What really got me thinking about that is one of my neighbors was able to pull his atv out of the ditch with 3 malmutes. From a dead on ice in neutral my friends f150 had some trouble but its a small v6 but had no problem when I was in reverse and hitting the gas. I really felt less stupid and useless about stranding on ice when some tourist made a wrong turn then made the mistake of trying to use my driveway. He spent $250 on a tow truck.

Squirt is all out of shape but she has dragged 200lb bales of hay. I tied her to the bale to keep her home... she took off with the bale of hay.

Looked at my vehicle weight on the registration. If i had 6 huskies that could pull 920lbs that would be enough dog power to move a ram 1500.

The thing with pulling cars is that even in neutral there is resistance from the rear end gears and the transmission. I'm not sure what weight equivalent that resistance will add. I could see 6 moving it on flat ground though. Make a good christmas card. lol.

I pulled out my honda civic with 2 thoroughbreds. I also pulled logs with them but a dog is not a horse. There are other factors too aside from mechanical resistance. When i did driving things like the wheel size and what its made of height of the cart to size of the pony the ambient air temp and wind direction and prolly another 5 million things even the array of animals a fan can pull more weight but in pairs is faster and easier to control and manuver. Driving was fun i just prefer fox hunting and timber racing. If i had better dogs id try dog sledding but spider wont pull and squirt is getting old and cant be paired with anothr dog. Im an adrenaline junkie.
