Our boy is 2.5 years now. We frequented dog parks when he was growing up but at about 1 he starting attacking dogs and biting so we haven't been in the last year and a half. He's got a few dog friends so he's not completely anti social. I think he just gets frustrated when a dog doesn't want to play with him the way he wants to play.

Our trainer told us "he just may never be a dog park dog". It's sad because his greatest joy is being around other dogs and playing with them. I asked our trainer about putting a muzzle on him for the park and the trainer thought that was "unfair" to him. But a friend told me they saw 2 huskies from 2 different owners at a park with muzzles recently that were playing nicely and having a blast. So I am reconsidering trying one.

Anyone have similar experience or opinions?

I have lost my enthusiasm for dog parks. All it takes is one bad apple to attack your dog and make them dog averse permanently. As for a muzzle, I use a muzzle on one of my guys pretty much full time (he attacks my other guy, is highly reactive if accidentally wakes from sleep and I have a young grandchildren.) Because he wears a muzzle, it is my responsibility to protect him since he cannot protect himself. For us, that means mostly stray dogs or coyotes. Which means I have to be with him when he's outside. At a dog park, you are at the mercy of other owners. Dogs attack quickly, some viciously and breaking up a dog fight can be hazardous - several of us here have had incidents where we ended up bloodied, some with stitches, me with a couple of infections. I wouldn't do it. Stick with the doggy friends you know and trust.

I think 99% of squirts problems have to do with being attacked by a loose pit bull at a campground. Before that she went to the dog park daily. Ive got several scars from breaking up fights. My thoughts on dog parks is just dont do it. If he has doggy friends stick with them. And if you want 1000 reasons not to go to a dog park watch the people's court or judge judy .

On the muzzle i have considered putting both my girls in one to try to get things back to normal but what stops me is what happens with the 2 boys when the girls go after each other.

I knew someone with a doberman that was a biter and they were given the choice of putting the dog down or pulling all its teeth.

Muzzles can cause issues with dogs to escalate very quickly. If your dog feels the need to bite, or is doing something to other dogs that cause them to bite him and then him need to defend himself you will possibly get him hurt by just muzzling him. Definitely stick with the dogs you know he gets along with. don't push your luck leaving him defenseless with unknown dogs.
