| One thing ive noticed with my girls is they both hold grudges for what seems like its longer then my boys, or any non husky dog ive had. Squirt is finally giving me the time of day today after i took her to the vet almost 3 weeks ago. Are my girls the only ones that do stuff like that and for that long. And yeah while they are both mixes the common thread is both are sibe mixes and now i wonder if its the breed. |

| I can't help you at all ... mine 'live in the moment.'
A trip to the vet is an enjoyable outing, even when it involves some unenjoyable happenings. They can't even hold a grudge while they're in the office. Oh, Sasha doesn't like being muzzled (done for everyone safety, she's bitten me and is know to snap when she's uncomfortable) but when the muzzle comes off she's going around asking for attention. I don't hit my dogs, but from time to time they 'run into my hand.' If I'm letting one dog in or out and another rushes the door, my hand is in their face - if they don't stop, well ... but it doesn't last any time at all. It's like "Oh, guess I shouldn't have done that ..." and it's over.
I've never had a dog who can "hold a grudge" --- not for more than, possibly, a very few minutes. I don't think a dogs mind operates that way.

| Our dog does hold a grudge... My husband dropped him off at boarding before we went away. A week later, we picked him up. My husband said that for a couple weeks, our dog never raised his paw to ask for a tummy rub (which he now does again on a daily basis). He did act less affectionate towards my husband and did seem to have a bit of a grudge. My friend reports that when her basenji got back from boarding, she sat down with her back to her owner and would not look at her! Now that seems to me, to be holding a grudge! Maybe some dogs are more forgiving than others, though... |

| The only time my dogs get handled roughly are when the 2 girls are trying to kill each other. We are very careful about keeping squirt separate.
Sometimes i wonder if squirt having a feral sire has anything to do with her and some of her very very odd habits. I didnt think feral was genetic though and ive had her since she was 8 weeks old and she turns 7 on 9/11 this year.
Some seem normal until i spoke with a behaviorist and was told it actually wasnt quite normal. Grudges.. hoarding that wasnt resource guarding. Behaviorist thought maybe wolf or coyote in her bloodline. Did the dna test and no wolf or coyote just sibe and indian dog and no explanation to her being weird with the dna test results.
Yeah the kennel squirt was so mad about she wouldnt touch McDonalds but that grudge lasted a week not almost 3 |

| Hmm it may be more of an "association" rather than a grudge? That is, Squirt had a very unpleasant experience at vet and you were there, so you became associated with the negative feeling at the vet's. Until the memory of that experience faded...
Dogs can have a strong "association" way of learning...for instance, my dog once got a static shock when standing at a place in the kitchen, and he wouldn't walk by that place for 3 days. Or when teaching him to Sit, I always did it on the doormat because our hardwood floor is slippery and his butt would slip. For a while, when I said Sit, he would go and do it only on the doormat. |

| If it was associative then in theory it would happen even when i just bring her in so she isnt in the car when i get heartworm pills and wormer. If it is associated with the vet we have a plan in place now to try and unassociate it. Its not the method i would use on a horse, even though i think my horse method would work on squirt. I dont have the time or gas money to do even try it. Whatever it is i grudge or learned behavior im ready for it to happen when she goes to the kennel for a week in September so my grandpa can use her bedroom.
I love squirt to death but i really wouldn't wish her problems on anyone else. |

| Kenzi will hold a grudge for a long time. And she will get her pay backs in time for however she had been wronged. Kye doesn't hold a grudge so much as gets his feelings hurt and they are hurt for a while. My husband got onto him hard for trying to door dart the other day and he wouldn't look at my husband for a week. Wanted nothing to do with him. He's a butthead, but boy does he turn into the most pathetic thing when his feelings have been hurt. _________________ |

| Kona holds and acts on grudges - but only for leaving him behind. Especially morning walks. If something gets in the way of that walk, there's a solid chance that my walking shoes get a Kona shower, and we can expect a lot of frustration howling when we get home. |
