Hey guys! I'm just looking for tips on teaching my pup tricks (sit, stay, jump, lay down, etc.). Any advice and tricks would be greatly appreciated

Any tips on stopping the pulling so hard while on a leash?

I use a goat halter on my gsd. With spider i basically made myself a dead weight on the end of the leash and carried dog treats when she walks nicely she gets a treat when she really pulls we stop and wait for her to pay attention and sit .We also use the sit/pay attention on other things like passing dogs going into the va cows deer. Im anti prong collar/e collar but a huge fan of the gentle leader or a goat halter
What gets funny is how well shes trained me. I feel like shes saying ill do it but only if i get something in return.

Thank you! I'll look those up. I'm going to start with the treats tomorrow, for some reason I just didn't think to do that. I've never trained a dog before (it's usually my husband) but it's spring and this is his busy time of the year so he's not home much and the training is falling on me.

Maybe a little more seriously than my previous answer. As @lostmaniac says, it's all too easy to let your dog train you.

I think the biggest problem with training a dog - especially a Husky - is having the patience to wait for the behaviour you want and then to treat appropriately.

Let's say "Set" (or "sit" if you're so inclined) the dog looks at you like "?????" so you take the leash you have on her in one hand and then press on her rump (don't tap, don't hit, just press till she sets) then reward her. She did what you wanted, even if it was with a little help. Patiently repeat this exercise until she equates "Set" with setting. After that, it's no more treats for "assisted behaviour", she needs to do it when she's told to get a reward. Eventually you can do away with the reward because she's doing what you want (she's a Husky so she'll test you to make sure you've got it down right. Patience!!!)

I won't get into the prong / e-collar discussion. Some simply don't like them; some have had good success with them. A sharp rebuke, verbally or physically, is never a replacement for loving, patient training.

You just need to find the perfect drive. With spider its meat with shadow its his nerf football with squirt its McDonald's cheeseburgers with no pickles and with splinter its being the center of attention

Thank you for your advice. I've almost got her sitting with no help. She's getting better and better everyday. She knows where the treats are so after going potty outside she goes right to the counter and sits. I have to make her get up first then I ask her to sit. She's a smart girl for sure!

1 big mistake i made is my 4 dogs (other then pay attention command) are trained in sign not verbally and my gsd is almost blind and now i have to retrain him and im adding verbal commands with the hand signals

He has pra his vision has been on the way out for over 2 years but the last 3 months im not 100% sure he can see at all. And he is not handling it well. Turned into a depressed velcro dog

He will feel better when the snow melts and all his markers in the yard arnt buried. We did some stuff to "blind dog" proof the yard while he could kinda see but with everything buried he walks into trees and the deck and the fence its funny in a sad pathetic way. I also know spider is about to go into heat and then hormones will fix his depression
