The discussion of whether or not a dog is an agouti comes frequently here. The thought is, a dog has a "dirty face," than it must be an agouti. Agouti actually refers the banding on the hair shaft, a triple banding.

My sister raises rabbits for their fur, which she spins into yarn than knits. One of her bunnies just had a litter work a lilac agouti and she posted a picture of an adult agouti to illustrate the banding. One of the best pics I've seen to illustrate banding.

So then whats the difference between agouti and wolf grey? Or from that a wolf grey from a black and white with red points?

Wolf gray the individual hairs are not banded and will have buff/reddish areas behind ears, with a beige/buff undercoat.
Here, each individual hair starts "lilac" (gray) than has a cream band than a "lilac" band. A sable husky has a 2 banded hair - a buff/red sort of color with black tips and red, chocolate or orange undercoat. A wolf gray will have buff/reddish areas behind ears, with a beige/buff undercoat.

Do not believe you can have a black and white with red points. If you do, probably a mix in there. At least in Siberian Huskies.

Both mine are mixes squirt with indian dog spider with arctic/ grey wolf. Both have banded hair but totally different color. Squirts mom was akc and same colors and markings as squirt. Its just way interesting spider has all the characteristics of a wolf grey including the red below hocks behind ears and lighter tan on her face but with 3 banded hair and a white undercoat. I guess its more wolfy agouti then husky agouti
