| Yeah, well it's been a really bad couple of months for me. I had to look back, it was last August when Sasha went 'odd' on me, wasn't eating (or peeing or pooping) Several trips and almost $1000 later she was back in great form and we never were able to come up with a cause. The X-Rays show some arthritis in he paws and along her backbone - well, she is approaching 10, she's allowed. (you can read that whole story at this link.) I had some trips up to Midland for hand work - I think I've commented on it here - anyway it was a correction of Dupuytens Contracture again a few dollars out of my pocket book (my Jeep gets decent mileage but 300 miles (twice) one way gets to be expensive after a while.) So now it's Avalanche who's giving me fits (and my Vet a new car!) (( This is Wednesday )) Avalanche had started throwing up everything he ate Saturday evening and yesterday (Tuesday) I took him in to see Mary. 2 X-ray later - well, he's fully impacted (meaning he needs to take a good healthy dump!) (( I knew he was full of it, just never had a vet confirm it! )) Seems as if the upper portion of his GI tract is full of air and the lower full of ... ahem, feces. There was also an area on the x-ray that concerned her but it was just a pocket of 'something' just forward of his stomach, I think. So, for right now, he's on a Rice and Chicken diet, small portions during the day so he's got his own personal chef! He also has a prescription for Cerenia to help him not barf everything back up. Mary was talking about a barium x-ray if things didn't start to move along on their own (with a little help from some olive oil.) You know, dogs are like kids, you don't get to give them back if things aren't working right - and obviously, at the moment they aren't - but I took these dogs "furever." He has defecated twice and was watering the plants (until the well ran dry) so things are looking up. I've dropped a note to staff here, and if it goes into barium x-rays / surgery, I'm going to have to ask for help - I hope not but there's a world of difference between Sasha's $800 and what I might be looking for with Avalanche - I hope it doesn't come to that but figured I'd write to get my head out of the pits. I love all my dogs, but as any parent will tell you (privately) it's a lot easier to love one than it is others and without doubt, he's my favorite mess!! | Ugh. Sorry to hear Avalanche is not doing well. Hoping "this too shall pass." Pun intended. Keep us posted. |

| Hopefully things will keep moving for him. We all have that one that is wound around our heart more than others. I would move heaven and earth for Kenzi if I could and needed to. Olive oil helped my parents cat move some stuff along when he was a little stopped up. Took a few days but he did get better. _________________ |

| Well, I don't know how much of an improvement this is but he did take a dump yesterday and he's not upchucking everything. When Sasha didn't feel well, it was obvious that she didn't feel well, she's always my most vocal and she was telling me she was hurting. With Avalanche it's more of a guessing game - he's an 8 year old puppy and he's always happy to do anything, go anywhere so it's really hard to tell.
He's getting four helpings of chicken and rice a day (8 / noon / 4PM / 8PM) topped off with 3 tablespoons of Olive oil - my good extra virgin olive oil, no less! Considering what's going in, there isn't much coming out! Add to that, he's always hungry (which isn't new) but he's counter sniffing now (won't surf, but that doesn't mean he won't go check it out!)
He's alert, truck going down the road and he's in the doorway to see who it is and if they're coming in to visit him. On the other hand, normally he sleeps beside my couch in belly up so he can get a belly rub as I'm dozing off - I haven't seen a belly from him since this started, he's either on his stomach or his side.
Rambling, but also making notes for myself.... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Sounds like he's perked up a bit. I'm guessing the chicken and rice is low residue so maybe there won't be a lot coming out. At least...that's what I'm hoping. |
