New Husky Owner In a Condo Empty

Hello Everyone,

I just joined a few days ago in search of a community of Siberian Husky lovers like myself to talk with. My fiance and I recently welcomed a Siberian Husky puppy named Luna into our home at the beginning of January. She was 4 and 1/2 months old already when  we got her from a couple who had been fostering her. She's 6 months old now. We live in a 1000 sq ft 2 bed 2 bath condominium in Arizona but she seems to be doing well and is fine as long as we play with her, take her on walks, and occasionally take her to the dog park.

Recently we temporarily had to care for a stray husky that had been found roaming the streets and were able to successfully reunite them with their owners. However, this caused my husky fever to worsen after seeing how well the other husky played with Luna and even managed to fully tire her out in a way that she doesn't get playing with other breeds of dogs at the dog park because owners mistake her nipping playfully at dogs and initiating wrestling as aggression. I've begun to contemplate whether adding an additional husky once she is older would be good for her. Although I acknowledge that for most people having one, much less two huskies in a home without a yard is frowned upon. Any advice from owners who have more than one dog in a condo or apartment or who know how to facilitate safe play between huskies and other dogs would be helpful.

Also here is a cute picture of Luna sleeping on the couch

What a pretty girl. If you can meet her exercise needs on her own now, then you can handle two as long as your apartment can handle it. Two will play and help tire each other out, but you will still need to do what you are doing now to sate her just with two rather than one. I have 3. We go on the same length walks that we did when it was just one even though they play together a lot. Only real challenge I had at the start was syncing their potty breaks. One wanted to go pee at a different time the other did so that would be a challenge in an apartment with stairs but after a while of regular potty breaks it should work itself out. The other thing is making sure that your apartment complex and neighbors don't mind hearing the play and rough housing multiple dogs do. When getting two it's best to crate, at least at the start while you are gone, so no spatz break out while you are gone. Make sure you have space for the crates. Mostly, it's just space more than routine. It sounds like you have a good routine going. You would just have an extra body to take on that routine.

Thanks for the input! She is crate trained (was already when we got her) and we do crate her at night or when both of us are at work. At 6 months old her bladder is developed enough where she can hold it for a few hours. Otherwise 5/7 days someone is always home with her. We do have a patio area that she has easy access to while we are at home since we leave the door sliding door open for her to go as she pleases and where we trained her to go on pee pads and that we can easily clean up and that's been working for us so far. Obviously with a new puppy they would have to adjust to that routine and I would be a little worried about kenneling them for a long period of time.
