| Anyone have any experience or info on the WAG dry kibble that Amazon is selling? Appears to have a similar composition to TOTW and very reasonably priced. |

| I've looked at it and not sure whether I'd buy it or not. 'Course the fact that Amazon has lost my Prime account twice might be influencing my decision.
However here's what Susan Thixton with Truth About Dog Food has to say WAG.
ETA: I've just spent 30+ minutes on the phone with Amazon asking about the manufacturer and the source of the imported ingredients. The first two representatives told me what was on the web site - which isn't a lot of help. "Let me talk with your supervisor, please."
The third representative also said that that information wasn't readily available but she'd ask her team to provide me with the requested information - though she expected that to take three to five business days and with the holiday coming up it might take longer.
If you don't hear from me this year, someone remind me and I'll follow up with another call.
ETA later: Amazon actually has two (maybe more?) private labels. WAG and Solimo which is a bit cheaper.
Solimo Ingredients CHICKEN, GROUND BARLEY, CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL(SOURCE OF GLUCOSAMINE AND CHONDROITIN SULFATE), GRAIN SORGHUM, ANIMAL FAT (PRESERVED WITH MIXED TOCOPHEROLS), BREWERS RICE, DRIED PEAS, DRIED EGG PRODUCT, NATURAL FLAVORS, GROUND FLAXSEED, MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE, SALT, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, FISH OIL (STABILIZED WITH MIXED TOCOPHEROLS), INULIN (A PREBIOTIC), CHOLINE CHLORIDE, VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT, ZINC SULFATE, FERROUS SULFATE, ZINC OXIDE, NIACIN, VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENT, COPPER SULFATE, BIOTIN, D-CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, MANGANOUS OXIDE, VITAMIN B12 SUPPLEMENT, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, MENADIONE SODIUM BISULFITE COMPLEX (SOURCE OF VITAMIN K ACTIVITY), RIBOFLAVIN SUPPLEMENT, SODIUM SELENITE, CALCIUM IODATE, FOLIC ACID, VITAMIN D3 SUPPLEMENT, COBALT CARBONATE

I was a little skeptical with “grain sorghum” being the second ingredient. |

I was a little skeptical with “grain sorghum” being the second ingredient. Maybe - but first ingredient is beef meal, 3rd, 5th and 6th are chicken meal, pork meal and menhaden fish meal, all concentrated named animal meals. Plus, Dog Food Advisor gives it a 5 star. ("The second ingredient is sorghum. Sorghum (milo) is a starchy cereal grain with a nutrient profile similar to corn. Since it is gluten-free and boasts a smoother blood sugar behavior than other grains, sorghum may be considered an acceptable non-meat ingredient." Dog Food Advisor) My only problem with grains is Ami doesn't digest cracked corn - cracked corn in equals cracked corn out equals pudding poop |

Message From Customer Service
Hello, Thanks for your patience regarding research on the Wags Dog food question/concern you inquired about. After doing a bit of research, I was able to locate contact details you will need to get you more information on what you would like to know regarding the dog food. The Amazon Owned Brands team is available from 3am to 10pm Pacific Time, seven days a week. You can contact them directly using the number 1-877-485-0385 and they'll be happy to help.
We'd appreciate your feedback. Please use the buttons below to vote about your experience today.
Best regards, Kandyss H Amazon.com
Called the number they gave me, spoke with a very pleasant young lady by the name of Christie who verified that this was the group who should be able to help and then asked:
- Who manufacturers WAG dog food for you?
- What ingredients are imported?
- Where are those ingredients manufactured?
The answers were:
- We can't say who the manufacturer is. There may be several.
- I don't know what is imported and the information I have available to me doesn't say.
- Considering the previous answer, this doesn't apply.
While I was impressed with the fact that they responded at all, I was less than enthused by the answers. I did voice my concern that with the plethora of dog foods from various sources being recalled for the same reason (several times over the past year!) we dog owners are going to be more involved with the sources - we don't want to kill our dogs with 'kindness.' _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
