| Hi all. Xana is my sweet wooly husky. She will be a year old this month. She is still in her teen years, so is sassy and feisty lol. But generally pretty well behaved and social. She loves to be outside and sometimes just does not want to come in with the cooler temps. We do not have a fenced yard, so I put her on a lead in the front or back yard. When i start to bring her in, she gets to the porch and just lays down and wants to stay there, She will just lay on the porch and watch people/cars/etc go by and enjoy being outside. I worry that she will forget what it's like to relax inside with us and it will teach her to be away from us more. During summer of course she spent most of her time inside. Does anyone have experience with this and am I just over-thinking things? Thanks for any info. |

| Oh yes. Come the cold weather, the big boy politely declines to come inside unless cheese is involved. Summer, he becomes a slug on our bed in front of the air conditioner. He still, hot or cold, loves his walks. Here he is, sunbathing, on a 7° day. |

| What a cute little puppy photo!!! I love the comfortable smile on his face.
Ditto for my dog... in the summer, I would open the back door and he would refuse to go out. He wanted to stay in the house. When it was 90+ degrees, he decided his afternoon walk consisted of stepping outside, peeing on our front bush, and turning around to come back into the house.
Now it's fall and when we are settled in our spots on the couch after dinner, he wants to go to HIS spot (which is now, outside - laying on the deck in the dark in 30-50 degree temps). Before we go to bed, we call in him and give him a treat.(I considered leaving him out in yard all night, but I thought it might be risky.)
I think he still loves us...he just likes being wherever it's cooler! |

| I used to let our stay out all night. Until he killed a rabid raccoon which required an immediate booster and 45 days home quarantine with immediate contact. Fortunately, he was UTD on his rabies vaccine could have insisted either Veterinary quarantine or, worse, euthanized.
So, now, he sleeps inside night, much to his chagrin. |

| Whoa! That's scary!! We have a few rabid animal reports around here (mostly, foxes). So yes, probably safest to stay in for the night!
And I thought 8 - 9 hours is a long time, a lot longer than just laying out on deck for a few hours with people looking out at you every once in a while ... a lot could happen in that much time (for instance, a large tunnel could be dug under the fence, ha ha).
