Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Just had a lady walking up the street with a 10 week(ish) old Husky puppy. I'm not actually sure if she was just walking by or knew we had Huskies, but my wife saw her and started chatting. She came and got me so she could head to work.

Turns out the lady is trying to re-home the puppy. Her son just had a baby and doesn't think it's safe to keep the puppy with the baby around. Didn't get into how/ why they got a puppy when they knew a baby was coming.

Gave her some tips. Told her worst case, to look for a Husky rescue.

If we didn't already have our hands full with three dogs, I would have taken it. Hope they find a good home for him/her.

People with huskies do have a way of seeking out other husky owners. Especially if they have one to get rid of. They figure you are a safe bet to take care of and understand what it takes to own the breed, whereas if she goes through craigslist there's really no telling who might end up with the pup. Sending her to a rescue is the best bet. Even if she keeps the dog and fosters it while they do the work to rehome it and go through the applications. Rescues are just better than the average person at networking dogs to the right homes and weeding out people who talk a good talk but don't really know what they are doing. You could always refer her to here as well so that she could get help on making the transition to having a puppy with a baby. Many people do just fine balancing a new baby and a dog or puppy. No reason to rehome really.
