Supracaudal Gland (tail gland) Hyperplasia Empty
PostSubject: Supracaudal Gland (tail gland) Hyperplasia   Supracaudal Gland (tail gland) Hyperplasia EmptyThu Oct 11, 2018 11:42 pm

Our now 12 year old neutered male had an issue with this a few years ago. Our vet performed surgery but said it would unfortunately most likely come back. Well, it’s back and is presently being treated with a medicated shampoo with benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotic. The skin looks better but theres still swelling in his tail. Wondering if anyone has had this problem? Ive read its typically seen with intact males and that testosterone plays a role. Our guy was neutered at 8 months, but later it was found he had ectopic ureters causing urine dripping/leaking. He then underwent laser surgery to correct it but he needs to take methyltestosterone 3 times a week since age 3 due to weakened sphincter muscle. Any advice would sure be appreciated. This poor guy has also been through double knee TPLO surgeries a few years ago so we dont want to put him through anything else if at all possible. Thanks so much!

After that many years on the testosterone I wonder if you could lessen his dose any? It takes a while for the medication to kick in sometimes I've heard and completely clear it all up. If all that's left is some swelling you may need to look into a compression wrap or a compress for it a couple times a day. The medicated shampoos can be had over the counter now or bought online so I would add it to my line up all the time and if the area looks like a flair up might be coming on just start giving his tail a bath. I've also heard that adding a mixture of coconut oil and sugar to make a sugar scrub to rub into the zone can help. Or you can try using colloidal silver spray on it.
