Hey guys, sorry for the many questions, I'm very frustrated right now, and if you guys could help me, i'd really appreciate it.

I have a 10 week old puppy and I am scared for his future. I really want him to grow up to be a smart obedient husky who has great character. The problem is I don't know how to train him to become this way. I have seen so many dogs that are extremely well behaved, that don't jump on people, little to no aggression, listens really well and other great qualities that make a well behaved dog. While other dogs are very aggressive, don't listen and just do nothing but cause trouble.

For example take this husky in the video, he/she bites and jumps on everyone and is overall very aggressive. What caused this husky to turn out like this, and could this have been prevented?
This makes me really nervous as to how he will turn out in the future.


What can I do to make sure my puppy grows up to be a great dog?

For some reason, I remember this as part of a Cesar Millan clip - but if it is, I can't find it.

First, I'm going to play devil's advocate a bit - if Diesel had really wanted to hurt the girl he would have, there's no two ways about that.  What I see there is a dog who's undisciplined and this was all play time for him.  Obviously the mate in the picture exerts a restraining influence but the girl has no resources available to her at all - she thinks.

Secondly, I'm going to guess that *all* the discipline was exerted by the fellow and did not include the girl - very bad mistake with any dog.  To phrase it another way, a dog has to realize that *all* humans are above it in the pack structure and that includes any children.

My suggestion for training is to take a look at NILIF (or NILF, Nothing In Life Is Free) (( and this search show all the places on the forum where NILIF has been discussed )) For me it started off with getting my monster (she bit me 5 times and sent me to the ER for stitches on the last one) to do some simple things. Wait for food was at the top of the list since she was food aggressive.

Training - any training - is going to be a lifelong endeavor. Somethings they'll learn and you re-enforce on a daily basis (set to have the lead on before they go out, for example) but other things ... well recall, if you can make it work at all, is an ongoing challenge.

That dog isn't really aggressive. He's rude. And if she would put her foot down and actually work with him rather than cowarring from him and just yelling at him he would adjust easy enough. She needs to take part in his life. Exercise him, feed him, train him HERSELF instead of letting him be her partners dog and having nothing to do with him other than just being a toy in his area the minute she doesn't have her partner as a buffer. She said it herself she didn't want a husky and if she has carried an attitude against him since he came because he wasn't what she wanted that won't have helped the situation either. You have to train the dog as well as yourself and the people who are prevalent in their lives. Dogs are rarely ever just one person's dog. If they live in a house with other people then they are also everyone in the house's dog as well to an extent and a dog that is only partially trained, probably not neutered, and potentially not exercised enough or consistently will be a terror.

Thanks @aljones! You always give great advice on every one of my threads! I will definitely look into NILF. ....Though from a quick peak it looks like I have been doing a small bit of it, ie; sitting before food is served, sitting before the door is opened etc.
