Dog Attack? Empty
PostSubject: Dog Attack?   Dog Attack? EmptySat Aug 25, 2018 11:01 pm

So i take my husky daily on a ride on my longboard. He's on leash and pulls me. Recently, we started taking a new path and within the last month.  A pitbull has charged out of someones house(the same house) and attacked mine. The first time i figured it was just a fluke and id probably never see the dog again because we were doing it really late at night. Today though, its 6:30pm and the dog runs out again and attacks mine. He only get a huge mouthful of fur before i'm able to pull mine up(body harness) and away from the dog while i kicked the dog away.

The owner came out and i told him this is the second time yours has attacked mine. "Im so sorry" yada yada. Hes a really meth head looking guy. Proceeds to beat the pitbull in front of me.

My question is, do i call the cops or animal control or anything since there wasn't any damage done to my dog? Is there anything i can do?

Call animal control. What if this was a couple of kids walking a little beagle?

What you can do depends in large part on where you live.

Some cities / counties have leash laws.  Some require a dog to be fenced, leashed or "under control" at all times.  Others don't seem to care so long as the dog isn't vicious.  The quotes around "under control", btw, are that some jurisdictions allow voice control - if the dog responds to voice commands, even at a distance, it's considered to be under your control.

The fact that this pit has attacked your dog (your definition) might convince a police man to make a 'nuisance call.'  Then again, it may not.

What I might be inclined to do is to call animal control requesting their guidance and state it as a hypothetical or "one off" question.  They might pick up on the attack or they might pick up on the beating his dog.  I really dislike getting animal control involved, especially with a bully breed, since the end result of their involvement is that the dog normally gets put down.

... and Amy has a good point ...

I’d definitely call animal control. Most cities have leash laws and the owner will at least get fined.

Dog Attack? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Dog Attack?   Dog Attack? EmptyTue Aug 28, 2018 11:02 pm

You know, every time an offleash dog has attacked my dog, I have seen the owner react by hitting the dog. One owner grabbed his dog by the muzzle and screamed into his face, then kicked him in the side. I was actually more frightened of the owner than his dog, by that point! I started to wonder if there is some relation between owners who hit their dogs, and dogs who are aggressive...

Here, animal control takes bites to a human VERY seriously, but attacking another dog is not taken very seriously. About the only violation I could report would be that the dog was offleash and off its property (violation of leash law, which is a small fine).
