I walk my husky everyday early morning and later at night. However its after 8pm here and its still hot. Dogs need a walk everyday so how is everyone coping with their husky. I usually walk on the moors but it's been to hot I think?? I know people have huskies In warm countries but in the UK we are not accustomed to a prolonged hot weather spell. What are other owners in the UK doing with their huskies. If its 21c I won't walk him so the weather is becoming a pain now as I'm in the woods at midnight walking my sibe.

Hi Tisme! It's actually quite hot where I am in Toronto too this year. This weekend alone the temperature is 31 degrees celsius, with the humidity it feels like 41 degrees. Regardless of temperature I'm always out with Echo between 11-1pm. I'm fortunate enough to have a dog park with a water fountain that is on 24/7 so while it's not my favourite dog park I usually hit it up when the weather is really bad. Echo pretty much makes a beeline for the fountain and just sits on top the nozzle. Runs around and then sits right back over it =P. Other than that today I went to the beach. Despite the weather he was running just as hard as if it was -40 degrees outside. He just runs into the lake and runs back out and goes back in to cool down. No problem here... While the weather is quite stifling this year I will say huskies can be acclimated to hot temperatures if you gradually bring them out to play during hot times. Just make sure there is plenty of shade and water, and take rests along the way. Echo doesn't play like it's -40 degrees, but he still prefers to be out than indoors. Other than water, I also feed all his bones frozen, things like duck necks, whole quail, kangaroo tails, lamb tails, I freeze them all so they last longer but also so it cools him down as a treat when we come back indoors. I do avoid peak times outdoors between 2-7pm and i don't take him out again until like 9:30pm at night when the sun is down, and even then I still always bring a canister of water with me wherever I go. I think you'd be surprised how comfortable your husky can be with the weather if he's used to it and he enjoys being outside =D. Stay cool!

@Tisme you don't mention either your location (from which I could see the local weather) nor the real temperature you're encountering so, kinda like Husky911 I can only offer some comments. I live in the desert southwest of the US and our current temp is 36° with a moderate 40% humidity (actually them temp is fine, but the humidity is rough on both me and the pups.) While my guy and gals spend most of the day with me in my NON-air conditioned house, they also need/want to get out during the day and they're real apt to not want to come back in until they've had their 'walkabout'. Granted, my pups are acclimated to the temps here and know how to survive in it - they head for shade after a run around the place and one likes to wander through the doggy pool to get a drink and cool off (the other two don't want anything to do with the pool.) I have two with the 'normal' thin coat and one who resembles Jimmy's ( @artic_wind) with a fluffier appearance. Sasha (fluffy) is *more* apt to stay out longer than the other two since her coat seems to act as insulation against the direct rays from the sun (heat) while the other two seem to get hot quicker. There's an old saying that "if it's too hot for your feet, it's too hot for theirs" but mine don't seem to mind a wander across sand and rocks that would fry my tender feet ... I think that's just a notice that you (or anyone with dogs in hot areas) need to be aware of your dogs and how they react normally and how they're acting when it gets warm. Some of the pups love the heat and don't seem to mind 40° and some seem to think it's too hot at 25° You mention the moors, but don't say whether your pup is allowed to 'get wet' while you're out or whether there is a place to 'swim'. (My picture of the moors is a mixture of boggy land and paths.) As Husky911 shows, even when it's hot, a dog who can get wet is apt to be quite comfortable even when we're not. @Husky911 - love that first picture where Echo is 'biting' the spray from the nozzle. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford .
