| Rescues abound in the area. NJ has Husky House, then there is Delaware Valley Siberian Husky Rescue, SHARP (Siberian Husky Assistance and Rescue Program (I have a foster, Z'ev, from there). Also MaPaw Siberian Husky Rescue and Referral service.
You also might want to join the Empire State Snowdog Group on facebook. Frequently, dogs and puppies needing homes show up there. You will also be able to get recommendations re reliable breeders who health test their dogs. |

At Hempstead animal shelter... Not terribly far from bucks county.
I saw a post on Facebook a picture (left side) of this pure breed #husky that was going to be surrendered to #hempsteadtownanimalshelter As I was walking through the kennels today I saw her sitting in hers, she looked sad & didn't seem to touch her food. Please #share #repost to help this sweet beautiful 1 year old girl named Bella get noticed and find a home ???? #adoptdontshop #rescueadog #fosterrescueadopt #husky #sharetosaveadog @husky.vdos #huskylovers #huskylove @huskyranch #shelterdogsofinstagram #shelterdogs #doginneed #longislanddogs #huskiesofinstagram Thank you. I've already found a few that I would consider. Of course, no one replies to e-mails. So, I miss having a dog and my Snickers in particular but I am in the middle of some difficult decisions. I have a decent sized yard but it's not fenced and, they don't give fences away. So, I'd be looking at buying a dog AND a fence. Snickers was on the older side and I was able to get away with a run and frequent walks. I would rather a dog have a yard to play in. Thing is, I've been looking at improvements my place needs and am considering moving (I need more privacy) instead of making the improvements here. All this means (to me), no dog unless a rescue or breeder is cool with my situation for the time being. Sorry to lay this on you in a breeder thread. Just real, grown up type decisions to make. |

| Some rescues (and breeders sometimes) will turn their nose up to you if you don't have a fenced yard. Not having one is doable though with multiple dogs. Lots of people who live in apartments have one or more huskies just fine. Just have to be dedicated to getting them out. The dog Amy posted above that is in an actual shelter maybe more lenient with your current fence situation than an actual Rescue will be. I would look at a wireless or in ground fence if your neighborhood is picky about the type of fencing they will allow. They are much cheaper. I have a basic welded wire fence on two sides of my yard and have never had issue with any of my three trying to go over it. Now this is very dependent on the individual dog as to if a shorter fence will work. All three of mine come from Shelter/pound situations and only one of those places actually asked questions when I came to adopt. I was asked at the one if I had a fenced yard, but they didn't ask what kind of fence, nor did they ask to see if for proof. They asked if I had a cat too (I do) but I didn't mention it. Rescues will sometimes do home visits so you can't brush off the little stuff with them. _________________ |
