Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| the online dog trainer. Has anyone used his training? From the intro it sounds like it could be interesting.
Unrelated question, on the four introductory videos, the lip movements don't agree with the words he's 'speaking.' Can anyone who lip reads tell me what language he's speaking because, even though he's obviously English, it doesn't look like English. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| He's from New Zealand. Not sure about the out of sync stuff. I watched the intro video on his youtube channel and the video on that site and neither were off to a degree that suggested different language, just poor quality video with pixelation. _________________ |

| From what I can gather he pretty much goes with the leader or Alpha role and, food reward for some things like tricks and potty training. He advocates controlling the food so the dog knows you're the leader and, acting like a mother wolf with a puppy. (forcing submission/belly and throat exposure, growling at the puppy, etc...)
He begins with reward based training and, ignoring bad, if that fails, he says to go to discipline style training and, ignore good. It's just a combination of several training methods and, finding which works best for each behavior with your dog. Well we all do that anyway.
He's very big on "pack mentality" which has it's points but, not to the extreme he advocates, in my opinion. I don't go for that human always goes through a door, up or down stairs first. The dog will think he's the leader if you let him get on furniture uninvited, never let the dog stop interacting when it wants, always be the one to stop. Don't interact when the dog wants, only when you want, don't feed the dog before you finish eating and clear the table, etc.. is all a bit too much for me.
In my home animals get fed first, they are the captive ones that don't have a choice. They can't go out and get food so, I don't eat until all of them have been fed. The dogs are allowed on the futon when they want, no other furniture but, that's their place to rest if they don't want to be on the floor. The doors we have must be held open so, it's easier if the dog goes through while I hold the door for them.
Dogs are not wolves, even if feral, they do not form packs like wolves do, yes they for association and might work together for a short time, but, it isn't a bonded pack like wolves. Odds are a domestic dog won't understand the Alpha based training. Even my wolfdogs understand there is leeway in that with humans. |
