| Hi everyone - We feed our male sib TOTW prairie dry food and mix it with wet food twice a day (he loves the wet stuff - but economically speaking its just too expensive to feed only the wet stuff!). We have had great luck with the canned Ziggnature turkey recipe and it sits very well with our Sib - the problem is that its about $35-$40 per 12 pack of cans. We have tried the TOTW canned stuff, however for the price the meat/broth ratio does not seem worth it - same goes for the more budget oriented Costco brand canned turkey (which makes our Sib's fart smell just awful ). We were thinking about trying some of Fromm's Pate grain free recopies - the turkey & pumpkin Pate looks like a good candidate. However, I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has any recommendations before I purchase a 12 pack of cans. Thanks! |

| Merrick puts out a pretty good canned product though I don't know the cost on it. I also like the stuff by Nature's Variety. I do partial raw and if you can source raw meat at a decent price where you are it has the ability to be much cheaper than canned but that really depends on your area's meat prices and if you have the time to put it all together. _________________ |

| +1 recommendation for raw food.
All the same texture and taste of wet but with a lot less unknown/filler ingredients that come with commercial canned/dry dog food. My husky is an active 50lb 1.5yr old and I feed almost 1.5X the recommended amount for raw food. To give you an idea, with supplements, treats and raw bones (for recreation/teeth cleaning), along his his regular meal patties, it comes to approx $120 CDN a month that I spend on him for food. Not much more than the $100 CDN I was spending on a bag of Orijen kibble/month alone, and it didn't come with any health benefits.
Google away the benefits of feeding raw, but to name a few: Less shedding, shiney/soft coat, more energy, firm/small poops, clean teeth, great breath, stronger immune system, healthy human grade ingredients that you can easily recognize consisting of meats/vegetables and nothing else. If you buy local, you also have the added benefit of supporting a local business.
Good luck! Keep us informed on what you settle with. |
