| Hello! I have just recently become the mother to 9 week old, Joey! He is my first siberian husky and I can tell I have a lot on my hands! In the past I've raised a soft coated wheaten terrier or terror I should say who is a loveball now and hoping to get my nibbler husky to that point! Any suggestions and help that anyone can provide would be wonderful. He has slept through the night since day 1 in/out of his crate. I'm trying to leave him uncrated at night, because starting this upcoming week he'll be crated while I'm at work. Only concern, him getting lonely. I have a roommate to let him out during the day while I'm gone. Also, any tips on getting him to go to the bathroom outside? He's 100% trained on potty pads since day 2 so no accidents off of the potty pad, but unsure how to transfer his "potty spot"! So excited for my lil guy to join the family and for people to swoon over him at his daddy's football game this Sunday He was a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday! In love, Joey's mama |

| Welcome! Joey is adorable! i personally wouldn't leave him uncrated at night, they can get into so much it's crazy. i would just take him for a long walk to tire him out before you leave for work so he's tired. potty pads tend to be a push back in the potty training process to be honest, i would just get rid of them and set a timer to take him out every 30min-1hr and make sure you always have your eyes on him even if it means getting a baby gate and restricting him to one room. |

| Thank you! So glad I found this website.
Agreed. When I say uncrated, I should have clarified that he is uncrated but in a secured part of the bedroom with absolutely nothing in sight but toys, food, water, and his pad DEFINITELY NO electric cords (learned that one when my light kept getting unplugged lol!)
As for the potty pad, tomorrow will mark a week of him being home with me so possibly starting this weekend for outdoor potty training? It's going to be difficult since its a 3 story townhouse, he's on the 3rd floor and he can't go downstairs yet. Carrying him to the potty spot outside, possibly?
Taught him to sit tonight! Can already see a difference in his respect level. YES! |

| okay if you're comfortable with that we didn't crate embry and he dug up all of our bedroom carpeting it was horrible yeah i feel your pain lol, when we got embry we were on the second floor of our townhouse and it was miserable, embry wasn't house trained until he was 9 months old |

| Hello!
We tried the whole penning off an area for them thing with Cheyenne. she learned to climb the gate. So she would climb the gate pee/poo in the house. and climb back over the gate and go back to sleep. We bought the crate shortly after they ripped the sattelite dish off the roof from the inside of the apartment. Can't wait to see some pictures! _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| Hello! Congrats on your new puppy. Hope you enjoy this breed as much as I love mine. I would think you want new pup to sleep all night so when lights go out it really is better to use the crate. Helps with potty training also. My puppies were always crated unless I was playing with them or feeding them. Puppies learn not to soil the crate but in a bigger space they could care less. I feel your pain. I live in a beach house and had to carry them down the stairs for a couple of months. UGH!!!! He will learn the stairs eventually. As stated above exercise by playing right before you go to work. Three puppy play sessions a day is plenty. He is a real cutie!!! |

| Joey is adorable!!!! Welcome to husky motherhood..lol! I must agree that crating him at night is a must, BUT my 7month old doesn't sleep in his crate anymore. We got him at 3months and a month in the spoiled brat was sleeping with us. He's good at night though and I must admit that I was VERY SHOCKED! My now 5yr old female was HORRIBLE AS A PUP! Kody is too....HE'S A NAUGHTY NAUGHTY BOY, but not at night with the exception of him waking up twice to go do his business. Enjoy Joey as a puppy! They grow so fast =( |

| Once they are reliable with potty training then they don't necessarily need the crate at night.. My 14 month old Braiden hasn't slept in a crate at night since he was 7-8 months old. BUT he was never bad about getting into things or chewing things up. He was very content to stick with his chew toys. He still is crated if I have to leave during the day. Skyla, the six month old, on the other hand gets into EVERYTHING. She is potty trained, but I would never trust her out of the crate overnight yet.. She has a fondness for electrical cords and likes to counter surf and gets into the trash.....and on and on. My pit/lab mix Max sleeps with me and she won't stop playing with him long enough for us to get any sleep. She is a pill, but I love her to death. I let her play om the bed with Max for a few hours at night while we watch TV, but when lights go out, Miss Priss goes back in her crate. She actually seems to like her crate and settles down and goes right to sleep. Dogs are like kids....each one is different....makes life interesting!!!! |

| Not sure if this is a good thing or bad so please anyone comment....I saw an advertisement for a training tool for apartment dwellers. It's a patch of grass in some kind of tray so that you can teach your young pup to go in the "grass" in the apartment so when they do get old enough, it is an easier transition to outside. Anyone hear of this and if it is better or worse than the puppy pads? I have only heard negative things about the puppy pads becuase it is harder to transition them to going outside so it seems the patch of grass idea would be a good idea???? |

| i considered getting one for embry as puppy because he was afraid of going outside, but i could never find one big enough for a husky, also that if i did they were over $100 and the whole idea of them peeing and pooping on it, and have it lingering in my house grossed me out. |

| Jennet, don't you have a litterbox for your cat? I would think it would be the same. I just googled it and there are lots of options starting out at $23.95 up to $255. I would just think it would be better than the puppy pads. I think of when I first got Willow and if I was in more than a one story building, I would have gone crazy trying to train her. She had me outside every half hour for months! But then again, that's what we sign up for when we get a puppy. This is why my next one will be an adult rescue! |

| yeah but cats are little i don't know, the idea of all the pee going into a tray in the bottom and me having to dump it, i'd probably spill it all over the place lol |
