Got out for a hike this weekend. This area is called Santa Ysabel Preserve. It's in east county San Diego, near Julian. Windy and a bit cold. Huskies loved it.
Random picnic table about halfway around the loop. Good place to stop, eat a snack and take a picture. The area is a free-range pasture. Cows all over the place. Dogs weren't sure what to do with them.

A rare pic of all three of them with their own bone. Usually, Mika takes Ginger's bone.

My guys know exactly what to do with cows...chase them! Which is why we were most concerned when this showed up in the backyard a few summers ago...

Yeh, but if remember right, that 'lawn mower' wasn't a cow, was it??
If I gave my three a bone apiece, you wouldn't see anything like your picture - I'd have a two way tussle with Avalanche trying to get out of the way!!

Great shots!
We've been wanting to hike with Kona; but between the weather, work and the fact that all of our mountains are burn scars right now (we're in the Thomas fire burn area) so we've stuck to our neighborhood and the beach.

That preserve is beautiful! Great pics of the pups. "Unimpressed" pic of Max is too cute.

More hiking... Took Mika out to Daley Ranch. Kind of swore off that place last summer when we came back with a bazillion ticks on the dogs. Figure with it being a little colder, the ticks wouldn't be around.
6 mile RT hike to Stanley Peak with a stop at the old water tank.

I love when the rain moves out and makes everything so crisp and clear, that view is beautiful!
Was gonna take Kohdi on a little hike but both he and Mishka haven't been feeling well. I think the rain brings up a certain weed on the canyon slope and they eat it, causing them to not feel well.

Ya, I can't believe how green everything is. Took Max out to Cedar Creek Falls with my wife and son. Not too many pics with only Max or just the falls. But here is one with him and an older one of the falls. The water was flowing much better this time.
Last time we were here, these streams weren't more than a trickle.
This is the only picture where he wasn't pulling on the leash.

Max's first time seeing snow. Took him for a hike on Devil's Slide Trail in the San Jacinto Wilderness. He loved it. Unfortunately, the snow was crusted over so it wasn't that powdery soft snow I was hoping for. Lots of ice on the trail too. Still fun.

Crusty snow good for standing on, but not so good for playing. He didn't seem to mind.

If there's yellow snow up that high .... hm... I think I'd better stop there.
Looks a lot like my memory around Lytle Creek ... 50 years gone.

I made the yellow snow joke because, well, that's the thing to to do.... then he pee'd on the snow about an hour later. ha ha ha.
Jimmy- it's only 1.5 hours or so from here. Only thing is that, depending on the season, weather etc, you'd need microspikes to hike in. I bought some last minute and was glad I did. Lots of icy spots on the trail where they were a necessity. Saw a couple people fall. Plus, the crusty snow was slippery.
Dogs are only allowed so far in, but where we went was fine.

What brand on the microspikes? I have several pairs of yaktrax but only use them when really really need to because they don't hold up on dirt roads. Almost like they are 1 use disposable

Your pups are beautiful - didn't realize they were wooly. Or, at least partially expressed wooly.

Microspikes are Kahtoola brand. Seems to be the most popular brand in the backpacking/ hiking world. Not cheap ($70), but supposedly are good quality. A guy on the trail last week made the same comment as you did regarding Yaktrax.
It was my first time using spikes (for anything) and I was pleasantly surprised at how much traction they had.
Thanks for the compliment on the puppies.

Goofing around with the camera filter. Pictures taken at night with patio lights and a flashlight.
Looks like a comic book.
The circle around Max below is actually the light from a flashlight....

That is pretty cool! It really does look like a comic book, I'm pretty sure you could even caption them in that app (that I totally forgot the name of, lol)

More snow fun. This time with both dogs and both kids. Walked up the road at the Forsee Creek Trailhead.
