| Hey everyone! I'm currently using prong collar on my 7 and a half month Huskita and it works great she is completely different dog on walks and stopped pulling while walking with prong collar. I have 10 years old son which walks her out twice a day short walks, and to be honest I’m hesitant to let him to walk her on the prong collar just because it can be ineffective and dangerous tool if not walked properly! So I was wondering if non pulling front clip dog harness could be a better solution for the kid and me first because it’s easier to wear and second because it’s not dangerous for him to walk her out. Does anyone had a front clip harness and it worked as good as a prong collar for them?
Thank you!

| I've never liked the front clip harnesses as they tend to make the dog walk funny. As far as using it with a 10 yr old, I can easily see a husky bolting and pulling the leash out of his hands. What are your objections to your 10 yr old with the prong collar? Unless your son is malicious (which I doubt) I don't see him hurting your pup with a prong collar. Though, to be honest, I think 10 is a bit too young to be walking a husky by himself. Dropping the leash, getting distracted are big possibles (hell, I nearly got myself killed daydreaming while walking 2 huskies attached to my waist. Well, maybe killed is a bit of an exaggeration but I sure was a bloody mess ) |

| Thank you for your response! My son walks her out only short walks about 5-7 minand it's on regular collar. But to avoid the possibility that she's might pull sudenlly to hard I thought to take some precautions and make his short walks more safe. |

| I love the prong collar but i would not put it on such a young pup, to many things are still developing that they "could" injure. i would use a good normal harness the pup can not back out of and get your son to walk her with a hip belt. you can have a longer leash attached to her and him around his waist and then a normal 6' leash that he holds to walk her with. the hip belt is a back up plan. _________________ |

| I agree with Jenn on not using a prong collar on a puppy. I would use the training harness for a pup. _________________ |

| Anyone seen or used these Pug Life harnesses? I guess they make sense but it seems to easy...someone would've thought of it by now. |

| Okay, I simply don't like the way they advertise and that turns me off immediately.
"I have such a good product that I'm going to give you a 50% discount" ... uh, why? "Our dog stopped pulling immediately." ... sure, you put it on a Husky and they didn't pull? At all?? "A part of our proceeds go to pug rescues." (if you buy in Jan or Feb) and what percentage goes to who???
"Why does it discourage pulling??" ... can't find that information on their web site. In fact, *I* can't find anything factual about the product - just a lot of hype about how great it is ...
Sorry ... I don't see it ... Why does a Thunder Shirt work? Take a look at their web site (about half way down) and they tell you. Why does a prong collar work? Take a look at this web site and they tell and show you right off the top. Why does this amazing, fantastic, miraculous harness work .... well, you tell me, cause I can't find it. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I believe the idea was that if you fasten the collar to the side loop, pulling makes the dog go in a circle. It's simple physics. Makes sense. Again, seems too easy. |

| I think what is supposed to make this better than other harnesses is the construction. A lot of no pull harnesses do the same thing by just pulling the dog around sideways but hard pullers can be difficult to fit the harnesses tight enough that if they insist on pulling despite the harness they can twist inside it and slip the harness. I have a front no pull and have fought this with my gsd mix. The thing just won't adjust to his weird body shape. I assume this is designed to not do that. _________________ |

| My current experience comes mainly from dealing with our 200 pound Saint Bernard. Everyone has their preferences however, I've never had a prong collar that worked. In fact, with another mix GSD/Lab/Retriever I had in the past the prong collar caused him a lot of anxiety. Our Saint could never wear one due to his excess neck flabs/weight. His harness is custom made.
What has worked for us? A ton of patience. It looks funny and the neighbors maybe wondering what you're doing but you start off small. First get the dog used to the harness, a back clipped harness is better because (someone already mentioned it) front clips can make the dog walk funny. When the dog starts to jerk or pull have them sit, offer a reward enthusiasm and a very small training treat, make them wait in the sitting position for a few moments. If you see that they have calmed down take a step, if they jerk or pull repeat the same steps. I'm not going to lie this does take time. You may find yourself stopping a lot at first. But it does work. There's no worry about accidents or the dog becoming scared of the collar. Now, I'm not saying that prong collars don't work at all I'm just talking about what has worked for me. Our huskies at thirteen weeks are just learning to walk properly. |
