Hello everyone! Today marks the 6 week countdown until my puppy comes home Smile Does anyone recommend a specific harness or leash that is good to start off with? Theres so many options out there I'm just not sure what the best fit would be!

Hey Megan, I recommend the easy walk harness, gets the pup used to not pulling, inexpensive, since they grow so fast, gets them used to a harness if that is your eventual plan. They grow fast so I would go the inexpensive route for now, until around 8 months old, otherwise you will be spending a lot of cash replacing items. I would also get a standard collar and leash, for potty breaks, and or if you end up needing to leash her to you for potty training. Here is the link to the harness I mentioned, many husky owners with pups have had great success with it, can be found almost anywhere, petco, petsmart, online, pretty much anywhere dog supplies are sold. https://www.chewy.com/petsafe-easy-walk-dog-harness/dp/48923?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping-Product%20Targets-Hard%20Goods&utm_term=1100012344717&utm_content=PetSafe

Hi Renee I was wondering if you still recommend the harness? I may pick one up and was wondering what you thought? Thanks

Hi Tammy, just seen this. Yes, I do recommend, at a very young age it is a useful tool in training to walk nice. Smile Too often many people choose adversives in controlling pulling, which is what a normal husky was born to do. Start them young, and the pulling issue, should never occur.

Thank you so much. With my previous husky Kimber she wasnt too bad on pulling. We used Kong brand but they can be a little expensive and I just need something to get her used to the idea of a walk. When shes older ill get her something better. I'm not a fan of collars with huskys since they pull. I'm afraid of hurting her neck. I mainly use the collar for ID tags lol

For the leash, I enjoy using Halti Training Lead. It is well padded, easy on hand, and 2 trigger hooks/clips help to attached the front and back D-rings give more control. Adjustable lengths. Priced friendly.

there has been some debate out there that the easy walk harnesses mess with the dogs natural gait.... just a thought, i found this one write up with some good info
http://www.kindredcompanions.com/for-the-love-of-dog/no-pull-harness

I love the ruff wear https://ruffwear.com/collections/harnesses/products/front-range-harness all 3 wear this for daily walks. Finn was put in it at 7 months when we got him. he can still pull so training is done for that but he is not able to back out of it and get away.

I should have worded my above post by saying teaching them young will reduce pulling. Both grizzly and Jenn made great suggestions. Jenn (TwisterII) uses yet another type to help with pulling and has had great success.

I use a Weiss Walkie. It isn't a no-pull leash perse but will curb some of it and it can't be backed out of. It's sort of the martingale collar of the leash world. Or a convertible harness.
